He’s a magistrate and no he cannot.
The truth is that we have basically no local news in most cities nowadays. Someone posted saying the Richmond newspaper is hardly limping along with a skeleton staff. The local news we do have largely is like a social page that sells stuff like home design by profiling rich people, so no real incentive to muckrake there.
I feel bad for the ex because in another career, he could change his name and move towns to protect the kids from all the gosslp. That’s hard for someone in his position to do. I think if I were him I would probably change the kids last name to their step mom’s name, and maybe look for a position with a law firm in someplace like Denver or Portland, if those states have bar reciprocity.

There has been a story on the Charlottesville CBS website and an article on the RTD website from another source. This has not been mentioned on any local Richmond tv stations at all. It is surprising because the family has strong Richmond connections, there are not many female child predators and generally white female predators DO make the news. Think of all the stories of the white female teachers having sexual relationships with high school students.

Also, no Wash Post, WTOP, etc. These outlets report tons of stories out of Charlottesville.

I do find this unusual.

White mom suburban housewife arrested for child porn and attempted sexual exploitation pretty much screams news headline, and definitely above the local level!

Plus, tons of visuals of her all over the place so it’s a pretty easy story to tell. Go to Warrenton and do your standup in front of the motel.


Not really. Do you know how many terrible things actually happen to children every day, up to and including torture and murder? This is an extremely salacious story but no actual children were harmed. It’s main interest is local. At most you can expect coverage from the yellow press like NY Post and possibly some kind of C list Dateline show.


In her correspondence with the FBI agent online, she distributed videos of children being raped by adults so yes, actual children were harmed.

Can anyone clarify the timeline? Some posts have indicated her contact with her kids after that has been pretty minimal, hopefully they are safe and getting help for anything they need. Just divorce is hard on kids, then the dad remarried, then the sex conviction then this, plus she seems very chaotic. Hopefully she did not harm them.

If anyone is exhibing the behaviors you described, it is almost a certainty that things will spiral downwards and something bad is going to happen. For so many families with a mentally ill loved one, it's just a matter of time and constant worry.

There was no 8 year old girl at the hotel for her to molest, but Hoppe distributed child porn, so there were real children harmed.

I think with a mother you would never assume this outcome. That's why this is so disturbing. I taught my kids to find a mother with kids if there wasn't a security guard or employee who could help them. We assume that a mother's biology would prevent them from being like this.

Tangent.... but PP, this is still the correct response to give to our kids. A mom with kids is still the least likely to ignore a lost kid, and also the most likely to stop her planned events to help a lost kid find their parents.

This also speaks to a sense of invincibility and a very skewed risk/reward calculator. Perhaps mania. The time as a child advocate was likely titillating to her, gave her ideas re: how to not get caught, and in her mind, gave her a perma cover to perv while pretending she was a hero. Good thing the FBI agents were not insane and did not share her delusions. I'm a bit surprised that she was tried and convicted for the park incident. A lot of times things like that are pled down, the facts had to be lulus.

Do any posters know her from her time as a mom, from school, etc? There have been posters from high school and college but I wonder how she came across to other parents?

This story has really struck me. If you knew her from a kid-centric setting, was there a vibe or red flags before the park incident? With the Dalai Lama vid yesterday, just reminder to be really vigilant @ kids around everyone.
