How many of those 99.9999% of cases are perpetrated by rich, white ladies? (Or even just ladies?) It’s the incredibly unusual circumstances here that would seem to make it newsworthy. The media LOVES to expose the misdeeds of rich, white people.
There has been a story on the Charlottesville CBS website and an article on the RTD website from another source. This has not been mentioned on any local Richmond tv stations at all. It is surprising because the family has strong Richmond connections, there are not many female child predators and generally white female predators DO make the news. Think of all the stories of the white female teachers having sexual relationships with high school students.
Also, no Wash Post, WTOP, etc. These outlets report tons of stories out of Charlottesville.
I do find this unusual.
White mom suburban housewife arrested for child porn and attempted sexual exploitation pretty much screams news headline, and definitely above the local level!
Plus, tons of visuals of her all over the place so it’s a pretty easy story to tell. Go to Warrenton and do your standup in front of the motel.
Not really. Do you know how many terrible things actually happen to children every day, up to and including torture and murder? This is an extremely salacious story but no actual children were harmed. It’s main interest is local. At most you can expect coverage from the yellow press like NY Post and possibly some kind of C list Dateline show.

There is something inherantly 'off' about her based on the photo posted. I can't put my finger on it, she just looks like she has 'issues'. This makes me so sad for children in today's world. I'm sure this isn't her first rodeo with this type of heinous crime. I hope other victims come forward. Monsters don't live in the dark anymore, they are know community members. Sad and sickening!
Eh, she looks like a middle-aged mom who was maybe once a sorority girl. She’s a monster, but nothing about having a sharp-nose, highlights, whatever you see there rings bells for me.
Same, that is the thing, people who do unspeakable things tend to blend in and look like everyone else.
I'm curious what her behavior was like in kid settings and if she fit well there. I've seen posts from HS classmates, people who knew her in college and early in work life/career. She was said to volunteer at their school.
I'm assuming the public sex charges were a shock to parents but any signs before then? I thought that charge precipitated the divorce but it seems that it may have followed it? Can anyone clarify the timeline? Some posts have indicated her contact with her kids after that has been pretty minimal, hopefully they are safe and getting help for anything they need. Just divorce is hard on kids, then the dad remarried, then the sex conviction then this, plus she seems very chaotic. Hopefully she did not harm them.
Re: news coverage, I think the off the charts graphic and horrifying details of this are something most people do not want to know. Wish I had not read the charging documents myself.
Signs of trouble were there before the sex in public but nothing to suggest what she became. Everything from anti-social behavior, degeneration of personal hygiene, worsening mental state to infidelity were going on but you couldn’t have assumed this outcome.

I think with a mother you would never assume this outcome. That's why this is so disturbing. I taught my kids to find a mother with kids if there wasn't a security guard or employee who could help them. We assume that a mother's biology would prevent them from being like this.

The statements she made were provably false and it's a crime to make false statements to the FBI. I think this will add additional jail time to a 10 year plus sentence.
