If everyone could only vote for board members in their OWN districts (to weaken the Apple Ballot influence), it might not be such a "landslide"..![]()
I would be interested to see the in which districts the greatest number of ballots are cast, though. I'm guessing there is some voting pocket out there that's hijacked the voting representation for the other districts?
Because teachers only live in some school board districts but not in others? That seems like a problem.
Why would anyone want to weaken the Apple ballot? Most of us vote the Apple ballot because they are the best candidates.
There are a lot of wealthy cranks who hate their taxes funding public education and resent the idea that teachers organizing to be paid a living wage.
Are MCPS teachers not currently being paid enough (make sure to take into account the benefits)? What salary scale would you recommend?

Because behind the Apple Ballot is the Teacher's Union and they only care about the teachers. No one is looking out for students because the MCPS leadership and the Teacher's Union are in bed together. What organized group is really looking out for the students besides the local PTSAs?

Their agenda shows how low on the totem pole of priorities are the well-being and education of students - many of whom experienced learning loss during the previous 18 months of online learning. Terrible planning and leadership of the school system.
Dr.McKnight is not a public health specialist and should not be responsible for deciding if schools need to close which should only occur if everything else (restaurants, bars, stores) is shut down.

Yeah, like maybe someone who spent 38 years as a teacher and administrator with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). Or someone who taught Medical Science with Clinical Applications at Thomas Edison High School of Technology from August 2016 through November 30, 2020. Or someone who served 27 years in various capacities in the United States Department of Education. Or someone who serves as the Director of Community Engagement at Montgomery College.
No, wait, I copied that from the BoE member bios.
Alternatively, maybe the PP is peddling fact-free misogyny...
It is a bit bizarre that the BOE and the County Council are like a1950s married couple. The men on the Council decide how much money the women on the BOE can spend. I blame the low BOE salaries.
I also think it would be helpful if the BoE salaries were higher. It's basically a full-time job for $25,000 per year.
