You asked others to provide 3 examples of BY. They provided the examples. Gave details about each one and explained why kids with 1/1 birthdays are a specific grade.

You provided nothing.

Wrong guy. I was just poking fun how people are making it seem like age cutoffs is the magic key to international success or a requisite for professional soccer.

Well if you understand that European countries make age the determiner for when kids start school. It makes sense that Jan 1st is the oldest someone can be in each grade. It also explains why European countries use BY not SY. When it comes to international play BY teams will be 6-7 months older than SY teams. Which is likely why MLS wants to stay BY.

MLS academies play international maybe once per year. FC Dallas has their u15s in Europe now in a tournament with Chelsea in their bracket. They have a certain number of overage players they bring to play against BY teams.

What no country in the world has (except US) is TWO age systems.

We’ll be unique

Absolutely. Having two age groupings is worse than being looked down on for an 8/1 cutoff because it’s different than most of the world. Certain teams can’t play each other, kids have to skip age groups to go between systems, it’s laughable.

US Soccer should care about this but they are content to sit back and let leagues do whatever they want.

You guys are confusing 1st day of school with age cutoffs. It’s not the same thing.

Sweden (6ys old manditory)
Poland (5-6ys old manditory)
France (most people start at 3ys but its daycare at the younger ages)

The way they do it is that once your kid is a certain age school is manditory. Which equates to 1/1 being the oldest birthday
per grade. School usually starts in Sept.

Now you do SY countries.

Someone should have told Jürgen Klinsmann we don’t group kids the same way as they do in Europe back in 2016….

Instead we have a bunch of crypto gays in soccer house pretending they aren’t low IQ and f’d everything up badly!

In Belgium, all children in a classroom are born in the same year (for instance, 2010). So the youngest child is born in December (2010) and the oldest is born in January (2010).

Every country in the world does SY some just start happen to start their SY on Jan 1.

For whatever reason we are the only country in the Fing world who cut their SY in half and used Jan 1 thinking we were doing the same thing…..

We did something really stupid and our stupid prize was having the worst senior teams we have fielded in 30 years!

Doing pretty good tonight, at least.

BY is used by ALL European countries other than England.

Many countries in Europe define grade in school by BY even though the school year might start in Aug or Sept.
