I have overall become skeptical of the idea that team success is a big reflection of coaching. Sometimes from the outside you see a team that is doing really well and think they must have a great coach. And then you talk to someone from the inside and they will tell you, the coach actually sucks. It’s just a good group of players. Very few teams fully stay together for more than a year or two. So it’s hard to attribute changes in their record to coaching. Sometimes it’s that that they gained a few good players. Some coaches are better than others at recruiting and building teams.

I think the real test of a good coach is if they can work with the same group of players over a few years and show significant progress in in terms of how well they play together as a team. Or if a significant number of players follow a coach to a different club. Individual development can be affected by so many outside factors with so many kids having trainers around here.

Yes we paid what appears to be a bit higher than most clubs around here. But as discussed many times here Valor does not add on this or that fee. So in the end what we paid is not really that much more.
My DC was top team and did very well this year. Too bad not all teams at Valor were competitive. But instead of listening to “most” or contributing to more rumors, why not simply look up records? You will see that several Valor teams are leading the pack in whatever league they are in (like top 10%, top 5, or however you want to measure). And my DC learned and improved a lot under the current coach for the past two seasons. So we’re perfectly happy.
Unfortunately Valor does not have ecnl, ga, or mlsn. So we will move on to another club.

Are you moving on because your kid will be U13 and made one of those higher level teams? Or because you think it will be easier to make one of those teams if you’re at a club that already has it?

Meaning the Valor coach did a great job of preparing and developing my dc to be able to make one of those teams.

Glad you had a good outcome. Personally feel that development isn’t worth the tradeoff of putting up with the way that coach spoke to players and spoke disparagingly about players to other parents on the team.

What major coaching changes? It seems like a lot of the same duds year after year on the first teams and a revolving door on the rest.

Mostly getting GP in the youngest age groups. My older daughter had a very different experience than my youngest. Our age group have been competitive with all of the bigger clubs in the area.

I can only speak in my experience. We have had a good experience with Valor, My DD is happy with her coach and we feel like she has improved each year that we have been there. We are currently on the top team and we have had a very good season.

All the back and forth aside… for those with kids at Valor now, what’s your sense on whether kids are staying or leaving next year? It seems like people were unhappy 1-2 years ago but have things gotten better? Or are there a lot of families frustrated and looking around? Considering Valor for one of my kids who does not have super high aspirations because it’s very convenient.
