That is hard. Now that they have seen the IQ from the WISC is under the “in pool” cut off it won’t do you any good to take another IQ test. One won’t cancel out the other. Your best chance is to write a strong referral on why your child should be in and provide good work samples.


DP. The WISC is not a single number, the subparts are just as important. For the appeal, include a statement about your DC's needs and/or work samples. Another test isn't needed.

I would agree. Certainly appeal but don't appeal solely based on the NNAT score. I would request the GBRS from the school that was submitted with your childs application as well. What about their report card, work samples? Carefully look at all data points...


Tests are age normed, genius. You don't like get a 80th percentile NNAT and then "cognitively develop" into a 90th percentile cogat. LOL!


DP. Yes, the scores are age normed but children grow and mature and IQ is not a static number, nor are test scores.

From my understanding, FCPS is very biased against students coming in from private. They don’t like families that are disloyal to FCPS, so they make it much harder for them.

Just be happy your kid got in. You got extremely lucky this year as it was much less competitive. Don’t let that impact how your child performs in the program.

And actually, in my circle of friends it was mostly the less smart kids that left. The parents of smart kids figured they'd be fine. The kids that struggle a bit, on the other hand, would just fall more behind.

Going to appeal.

Parents who mentioned that they submitted strong kids’ work. Please enlighten little more that what kind of work your kid did. Lego/maths sum/painting/writing

We pulled my daughter out of FCPS this year to homeschool so this was a parent referral.

2nd Grade
NNAT 143
GBRS 2 CO 2 FO (Filled out by me- the teacher!)
Lots of good work samples
1 Standardized test score- California Achievement Test- 99th percentile
