The virtue of a big county and big school system is to be able to spread things around a bit for the greater good. FCC formed because of its desire to avoid black people and they pretty well have succeeded.
How predictable. As has been stated repeatedly, McLean (and Great Falls) residents have been footing the bulk of the bill for renovations, new buildings, and expansions in schools across FCPS - for DECADES. McLean needs an addition, and has for some time , but the SB chooses to ignore this in favor of “equity.” Enough is enough.
it's just a coincidence that you'd have one of the whitest school systems in the area if McLean broke off. Also one of the most segregated with Langley having TJ numbers of URMs and McLean approaching 20%. I guess if you drew the boundaries carefully enough, you could make McLean just as 'good' as Langley
You ask for evidence that McLean/GF schools haven't been well served by FCPS, and then when it's provided you pivot and complain about what the demographics of separate school system that includes Langley, McLean, and their feeders would look like. I don't think that sputter fest is going to get you very far. People are fed up.

As usual, the people who want everyone to be brought down instead of up will resort to accusations of “racism.” Utter morons.
you probably want a better answer when it comes before a local governments commission and then before a special state court (both of which have to happen for city status) because it's going to be brought up by opponents
Who would oppose this?
is it really a valid argument to say "we don't want them to go because we want their money"....?
do you really think that people won't bring up segregation?
How would this be fundamentally different than the current situation? This isn't segregation -if anything it will make FC/FCPS more diverse since it will no longer count a chunk of mostly non POC residents. I'm sure some will try the argument but ultimately, the rest of the county wants McLean money without giving McLean resources. Thats what it boils down to. Hard to make that argument with a straight face.
Let’s be clear, though: it’s not like most residents of the rest of the county actually sit around their homes at night thinking about how they can take Great Falls and McLean for a ride. It’s the people who run FCPS and the School Board who invariably conclude the best way for them to cut corners and promote their “equity” agenda is to short-change that area.

Plenty of POC like me in McLean, it’s a diverse area. We are just fed up and this racist label is not going to change our minds.

DP. Still waiting for you to accuse FCCS of “segregation.” Or is that somehow different?

There's plenty of information that has been shared over the course of this thread about how the areas that feed into Langley and McLean have been ill-served by FCPS over the years and would benefit from having greater autonomy. You choose to ignore it, and that's your right, but your decision to do so has very little to do with the strength of the arguments that could be assembled and presented.
You want to hold northern Fairfax captive, because you value our tax dollars more than our children, and then you cry racist when, surprisingly, that is not well received.
Anonymous wrote:FCPS teacher living in a neighborhood that I'm sure receives more than it gives, thanks to neighborhoods like McLean. FCPS has made it a goal to squander their time, their money, students' education, and their own reputation. If McLean can successfully function independently, more power to them. I'd like to say that would give FCPS the kick in the ass it needs, but...yeah.
