well yeah. the attitude is that rich people will come out on top in life no matter what so the resources will be focused on those who don't have that socioeconomic advantage. They will never outright say that of course, but thats what is happening here. Even the poorest kid in McLean has advantages over most of the kids on the eastern end of the county. Given all of that parents in McLean still have the right to do whats best for their children. In this case that is pulling out of FC

Parent. I also live in a Title I district that has benefitted from the McLean tax base. I am grateful, and won't begrudge them demanding fairness. FCPS is just unwieldy. Even dividing into 2-4 separate districts would bring more fairness and responsiveness.

I'm in the McLean district (but closer to FC)... my hope is that all this Sturm und Drang doesn't ultimately result in McLean fracturing from Fairfax, but does get the county and school boards to realize "we've taken this area a bit too much for granted... we don't need to treat them any better than other areas of the county, but probably should at least ensure that their public works are properly maintained and school crowding levels are addressed (the way we do for other areas of the county)" and finally motivate some appropriate action.

FCPS teacher living in a neighborhood that I'm sure receives more than it gives, thanks to neighborhoods like McLean. FCPS has made it a goal to squander their time, their money, students' education, and their own reputation. If McLean can successfully function independently, more power to them. I'd like to say that would give FCPS the kick in the ass it needs, but...yeah.
