I do not intend to demean her historical contributions to the court, including those during the Obama administration that would not have occurred if she had retired, but she had five cancer diagnoses and said she was going to work until age 90. Last year she responded to critics calling for her retirement essentially saying that Obama could not have gotten as good of a justice confirmed:

It's hard to say if it was commitment to the cause, denial about her health problems and longevity, or selfishness. Either way now her entire legacy and all she fought for is it stake.

Yup. Because the democrats got rid of the filibuster for judicial nominations. Resp the whirlwind.
Wrong. Dems left it for the supreme court. Republicans blew it up for gorsuch
Wrong. Reid knew damn well this was going to happen. He was promised that it would and he didn’t care. It opened the gates and you know it. If Reid hadn’t done it, you wouldn’t be in this situation. Reap what you sow.
No we'd still be here. If Reid hadn't done it, McConnell would have and he knew it too. McConnell was already abusing the filibuster all over the place, and Reid asked him repeatedly to stop. Don't be a fool. You like McConnell politically and that's fine, but don't pretend he is not a total asshole. Reid was pretty dickish too, honestly. Nice guys don't become majority leader.

You're a ghoul. These are real people whose lives you're so casually talking about ruining. Why?

Wow. I didn't expect such forthrightness of Collins. Major CYA to please both parties before her potential re-election. I'll take it!
She will vote for the nominee after the election...win or not.
Maybe, maybe not. If she loses the election she will be free for the first time in her career. Then we will see what she really thinks. I think she really is pro-choice. I could be wrong though.
She is a pro-choice Republican and has made no bones about that. I am also a pro-choice Republican.
Hope you’re voting for Biden then.
Nope. I used to be a one-issue voter but no more. There are other issues at stake now.
Other issues than a woman’s right to choose? Don’t really care about that one that much?
Don’t call yourself an advocate for women if you plan to vote for that monster.
Of course there are other issues IN ADDITION to a woman’s right to choose. I no longer vote on that one issue because I know that Roe v Wade will not be reversed, no matter how much Democrats try to fear monger. It just won’t. So now I’ve moved on to other issues that ALSO concern me. Unlike you, I’m able to consider multiple issues at one time.
First of all nobody knows the future, so no yoi do not know that. Second of all, if you are not aware that the conservative justices have been signalling that they would overturn Roe, you really haven't been paying attention.
Did you know that Roe v Wade was decided by a court comprised of a majority of justices nominated by Republican presidents? And that in fact, the final vote was 7-2; and only one Republican (and one Democrat) voted against it? What were you saying about “not paying attention”?

The whole point of stacking conservative SCOTUS is citizens united, rolling back regulations and voter suppression. Oh and letting Trump off the hook for his crimes. If Roe were to be overturned, the evangelicals would stay home.
There are at least four votes to overturn Roe on the Court right now, why do think it is safe? If someone like Barnett is confirmed, Roe is GONE, period. There is will no stopping right from getting everything they want- regulations, voting rights, civil rights as well.

I agree that Roe v Wade will never be overturned, but you’ve got that exactly opposite. It’s the Dems who use that issue to scare people into voting for them. Which is why we’re seeing more and more pro-choice Republicans. They’re wising up that they don’t have to vote Democrat because of that one issue anymore.
Source?

No they wouldn’t. GOP would just run advertisement scaring them that Dems would bring Roe back. It will never end until we can oust religious fundamentalism.
They had control of the gov until 2018 and didn't even manage to defund planned parenthood.
