This is a false comparison for a couple reasons. Dave is a decent coach, but his style suits the boys better than 13 year old girls. Please don't get caught up in accolades GIVEN, as they are as good as the organization handing them out. Why isn't he having the same success on the girls side?
his coach of the year was for national high school soccer.
And his u14 girls were successful, and hes has success in the past with his girl teams as well.

It’s great hearing parents critique coaches. Here’s all that matters: are they learning how to play correctly and are they having fun? If two yeses, then stay. If two no’s then don’t. If mixed then you and your kid should decide why they’re playing and make a decision or look for a situation with two yeses.

Sad to hear that D Green breakdowns kids too, but I bet most/all players will remain on the team since they are top ranked in this area.
Daughter has played for Dave Greene for a few years and he has his moments but is far from abusive. Kevin coming in and being the biggest asshole of them all, (and talk about arrogant...WOW) I think made Dave greene see what he didnt want to be or act. The difference between Dave and Kevin is that the girls love Dave and his dry humor and the girls just fear Kevin and think hes a jerk. (and its not a "oh theyre just being weak" issue. Its a culture of fear)
OMG you hit it spot on-Dave is funny in his grumpy way and the girls love him. He is funny-they get him. He is a big softie. KL is feared. He is a great coach tactically but he needs to tone it down. If he is wise, he will learn from Dave. Remember KL is young and has a lot to learn.
KL is impressive when it comes to the game, for sure. But at what expense to the players. I think he means well but should adjust some.
My DD had a very good experience with KL. . Perfect - no. But she developed an incredible amount. He also had his fun moments and she liked his sense of humour. She liked his demanding practices and would talk about how much she could see herself improving. In that way, it really boosted her confidence. She is hoping to have him again as are many of her friends on her team. I hear them talk about it.
I think people have different experiences with coaches - and probably varies by age / team. (Though she was not one of his favorites - he did understand her and he knew how to get her individually to the next level)

no idea what youre talking about. Sorry that your DD didnt benefit from Greene after she was cut.
Dave Green bar none is the best coach my daughter ever had. He is tough and my daughter was not a favorite of his but he made her better. She respects the heck out of him. He is gruff but he is terrific and cares about the kids. I hate reading words like “abusive” on an an anonymous site. KL is also tough but he is a terrific coach.
If your DD was indeed under DG, she may produce under him just to try to make him stop yelling at her. In the years after, her game will highly likely go south as DG does not allow his players to think for themselves ie soccer IQ is not developed. One has to be careful with saying a person is a great coach or leader just because they yell.

Saying a "fair financial adjustment" is so imprecise that they can attach any number to it. Don't expect to get much back. McLean, for example, had no spring season and they only refunded 12 percent. I guess it is better than nothing.
any existing bethesda family knows what to expect or what not to expect. there was no financial return from the spring.

If you are a parent of a serious 2008 girl, a key part of the question is when you should move her to a ECNL (GAL?) club.
There was a recent thread on that discussion. But basically it revolved around can you wait to U14 or U15 and break into a top team. The challenge is that during U13/U14 years the ECNL teams have been playing tough competition and that level of competition increases the gap. It is something not really replicated in individual training or an EDP league weakened by the move to these other leagues. The other teams - Potomac, FCGB, even Rush playing up on 2007 in MD are just not very strong (you can research it) - though your kid could have a good experience. If you have a technical ECNL team with a technical coach, that gap will be even wider. Or do you get on an ECNL team now. U13 is an entry year for most teams as they have to increase the roster- and its a year where spots shuffle around. Most teams move from a roster of 12-14 to 15-18.
Right now, the two programs most physically accessible to MD parents that provide this are Mclean and BSC. MD United is a weak year. Pipeline is likely too far for most, but a very good option Other Nova teams are likely also too far and then the ECNL/GAL debate. Arlington is GAL. Metro was newer with DA and trouble fielding teams and now GAL.
The whole ECNL / GAL has several threads on it. ECNL has a track record of college exposure. GAL is former DA. For MD area, ECNL got a huge benefit as former DA teams joined ECNL, the region is now less travel, but still strong with PDA teams and now addition of Pipeline.
Good luck to parents thinking about this. This board and some threads can provide some insights - if you take out some of the folks who have personal agendas.

I don't believe that yelling coaches are "great." I don't believe that tearing down a girl's self-esteem is valuable. Why do soccer parents put up with this? There are so few full scholarships. The professional circuit for women pays crap. I do not get it.

Fury started at a different level from previous coach who left. KL brought them up a huge development curve. Overall team as a whole is characterized as technical team. They are a very small team and moving to U13 will need to expand so by definition there are spots unless they are playing without a bench. . Like anything in life, do your due diligence and talk to coaches and see if you can talk to parents. U13 is a key entry year in ECNL so that may also factor into your decision and worth research on that versus other club options that don’t have ECNL
