I’m the poster that lives in Charlotte NC. We have 2 cases in NC and the governor has released information about the cities the people live in, the stores and restaurants they visited and the people’s ages.

And no I don't think the cruise did anything wrong. As soon as you find out if someone has contracted, you immediately test the people. They took too long. And now are being shady. Have they reached out to everyone on the flight for testing. Are they notifying people of the hotels, airports and other transportation systems they used. Why aren't they notifying us what medical facility, what stores they went to, etc.. When there is a measles outbreak, they sure do this. Why not now? Why only for this case?

Agree and am wondering this myself

I would like to know why as well!

Frustrating. Waiting for a dr appt in MoCo for my daughter with a 102 fever (4:45 appt). Assuming flu or strep, but still frustrated that we have no idea if she could have been in contact with any of those cases.

That's what I figure. There are so many international travelers (rich people who travel a lot, people from other countries, etc) walking around DC and MoCo that I've assumed COVID-19 started to circulate here when it reached Europe.

The local Asian American community was voluntarily cancelling events and being cautious, but I don't trust selfish rich / UMC people.

Good God they haven’t even done any meaningful testing in DC. This is irresponsible on the mayor’s part.

How often does blue alert happen? Once a day? week? a month? Year?

Same question as above. Anyone experienced know?

I mean, they didn't knowingly do anything wrong.... they were on vacation, likely not paying any attention to news. They came home, felt ill, NOT unusual following travel.

Not paying attention to the news. That is knowingly doing something wrong.

Agree. You went on an international cruise and you weren't watching the news and updates on coronavirus. Just dumb.

They went to Mexico, not Asia or Italy. They had no reason to think they had coronavirus - especially during flu season.

So, then what lead them to go to a hospital to be tested then?

Someone from their cruise was reported as having died due to Covid-19. That made them want testing.
This story is really not that hard to follow...I don't know why people keep asking these questions. Lots of people cruised from SF to Mexico during a time when there were no reported cases of covid-19 in either of those locations. They disembarked 2/21. Several days later, one of the passengers died. Because the SoCal hospitals had some experience with Covid from the evacuees, they got her tested (shortly before or after she died) and confirmed Covid. When that hit the news, passengers who had already disembarked started to ask for testing for themselves. The CDC also started doing contact tracing of all people on that cruise, which is how they diagnosed the three people in MoCo MD, who do not appear to be sick enough to have even sought medical care. I still don't think they've tested everyone from that ship, as there were thousands on it and CDC has not run that many tests in total, so they must only be testing passengers that said that the had some symptoms of something. Really, no one on that cruise did anything wrong (unless you consider cruising to be morally wrong in and of itself, or any recreational travel to be morally wrong when a new virus is spreading).

When was that person reported to have the virus. What exact date? Two days ago when they tested or days or a week prior to that? So why are they just getting tested 14 days later.

It said they became sick after the cruise and sought medical help? I certainly don't take that as them having no symptoms. Hogan reported their symptoms were abating, so they were symptomatic. You don't have to be in an ICU bed to be contagious. Cough droplets off a relatively healthy looking person could be contagious.

Exactly. Every damn time someone I know has landed in the hospital it's taken HOURS to get a bed. My cousin had a kidney transplant at the same hospital the COVID+ guy is at - in another building. Took him almost 24 hours to get out of the private area in the ER and even then, they screwed up, put another person in with him, and the whole darn (immigrant, non-English speaking) family stayed with the person, Grandma hacking up a storm. In a room with someone on immunosuppressants. My cousin's wife finally had a fit to make Grandma wear a mask. Only ONE person should have been allowed in that room with that patient, not the 5+ that were there.

That is INSANE. Please lodge a complaint. This should never have happened.

If you have the ability to book travel, traipse around on planes/trains/boats and ubers [see Mexico] then you have the sense to not traipse after a cruise or go onshore when you just don't know...what to Corona cruise? Then each ship should not b allowed to dock and all have to stay on it until 14 days plus and no negative tests.

Meanwhile MOCO has decided that if schools close it will have some sites available for regional eating/free food. https://patch.com/maryland/silverspring/mcps-coronavirus-plan-remote-teaching-food-accommodations

MCPS also said it would make accommodations for those who need food.

"Depending on the length of time schools are closed, we are prepared to provide meals at several schools as regional meal sites. Information on the sites will be shared with the community once it is finalized," MCPS wrote
[b]

That is nonsensical and are other countries or jurisdictions planning that? Box of non perishables dropped off for each FARMS student - 1 week supply makes sense.

Given the amount of food insecurity in Montgomery County (16.9% of children) which is second only to Baltimore City the school district knows their role in supporting low-income or low-access families and children and is making efforts to do so even when kids aren't in school. Makes sense to me.

Since their cases--so far-- are mild it is unlikely they would have been tested if they had not been contacted. Bear in mind that MD has done only 31 tests.

Supposition is that they were on the first leg of Grand Princess cruise and were contacted because they names were on the manifest.

Another thought is that they could have been on the Nile cruise. They have been doing contact tracing on that and Egypt announced that 12 crew were found to be positive today. Testing was carried out because a passenger, a Taiwanese-American, tested positive when he returned home. Not sure if that was home to Taiwan or the US.

A Taiwanese-American would return home to the US.
