what I heard is that if the scores are really high (like full score(s)), the chance of being denied is very low. and you can always appeal if in case.

Hi,
I got a letter that my son got into the screening pool. I referred to certain instances of people telling me that their kid got high scores and yet they dint get into the level IV program to my friend ( who was a FCPS elementary teacher). she said honestly, we would want to make it look that it is all an overall count of school work, GBRS etc . But we can't definitely deny a kid with such high scores. Most parents think that its a shame that their kid did not make it to the pool and they convince poeple that the school referral is the reason. But It is not entirely true. Even with a kid with low scores get it if the kid is found to have the potential to think outside the box. But never a kid with high scores was denied.
I am not sure who to trust at this point. I can say for sure what is going on only if I was in the screening committee.

Excellent! I have two kids in AAP as well (one in 4th and one in 7th) and the last one is in the 2nd grade pool.

I wonder when they will post the cutoff, since they already have the "pool." Got both CogAT and NNAT scores today. Both well over the usual 130s cutoff for the screening pool (scores over 139). However, I have not rec'd a letter about the screening pool.

I seem to recall -- but I'm honestly not certain if this is correct -- that the deadline to submit the parent questionnaire and other materials is set by the school (and perhaps the AART at the school) vs. the central office. (I looked for a deadline on the FCPS website and I could not find it either.)
It is listed on the FCPS website. The deadline for optional materials to be submitted to the AART at the local school is February 4 2011.
