Please stop trying to pretend that there are not gangs in Silver Spring, Wheaton and Gaithersburg. There was a rise in gang activity in 2017. They are recruiting in schools. Its a big problem that MCPS does work with police with try to do what they can at the local school level. MCPS and MD want higher graduation rates in the DCC so they are loathe to actually expel gang members from the schools.
Its a serious problem for kids and teachers in those schools. Pretending they don't exist so you can talk more MC white people into your neighborhood doesn't resolve the gang problem that is getting worse not better. We know Latino parents outside Silver Spring who will absolutely not consider having their kids apply to the Blair magnet because they are afraid of their kids being targeted by gang members.

Yes, I did and a slew random articles on MS-13 activity in the US is hardly evidence of a local epidemic.
The title of this thread IS gang activity at Montgomery country schools and the poster failed to provide evidence for RECENT gang incidents at MCPS. They did provide a lot of info about MS-13 in the US in and in the mid-Atlantic region but that's not on point.

The title of this thread isn't gang activity at Montgomery country schools and the poster failed to provide evidence for gang recent incidents at MCPS. They did provide a lot of info about MS-13 in the US in and in the mid-Atlantic region but that's not on point.

If MCPS is this hotbed of gang activity, it should be easy to produce a half-dozen WaPo articles of separate incidents at MCPS where charges were filed within the past year; otherwise, you're spreading unfounded rumors to support ulterior motives.
You seem to be the one with an ulterior motive here. Go through the articles listed above. Go talk to the parents of the dead kids. Since I live in one of the neighborhoods mentioned in the articles, I already know you're full of it. Also, insulting folks by saying the word of an anonymous poster isn't worth anything pretty much admitting you've lost the argument.

IF you are looking at that source for definitive information you are not getting the truth. I know for a fact one year in my child's school, that reports were made to CPS and Police about alleged child sexual abuse by an educator. The principal and vice principal told me they made reports. I made them too and so did friends. Yet, for that school year, the school shows 0 reports to police or cps. 0 incidents at all. I know for a fact this is also true with other schools.
Provide evidence or its hearsay.
It's not hearsay if I was personally involved.
The word of an anonymous poster carries 0 weight.

We are in the gaithersburg cluster and I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. There are gangs that operate throughout the downwardly mobile neighborhoods in MoCo. By that I don’t mean ALL of SS or Gaithersburg, etc, but rather in section 8 housing, inadequate apartment buildings, etc. These kids are in school during a period of their radicalization, for lack of a better term. Usually they drop out, or have poor attendance, or are otherwise not a prominent presence at the school. Are they registered? Yes. Do they have contact with, and therefore potentially influence on, other students? Yes. How significant is that influence? Not very, and it’s *almost* not a factor if your kids don’t meet any of the demographic targets of those gangs. It’s more of a psychic factor than an actual one, though.

I am seeing an interesting distinction here. Some posters think "gang activity in school" means the existence of kids at a school who are in a gang, and some posters think "gang activity in school" means when violent or criminal actions take place at school. I would say that it's the latter. And there is very little evidence of that.

If it does occur on school property, intimidation seems to be how the gangs ensure it's never officially reported. However, it doesn't mean that it's not happening.
