What you didn't mention is whether you already have connections of your own, because you will need them to get into the schools where you can make connections. Sorry if this seems circular.

It's not just about status and the ability to drop names at parties. It's also about using the other parents you meet to further your own career, and your kid's future prospects. So yes, you must change schools immediately!

I'm mad at DC's public school because they just don't get that her bad behavior stems from her profound giftedness. Impatience with teachers, intolerance of other kids in her study group, et cetera, just come with the profoundly gifted territory. No, I don't think it would be helpful to seek counseling so she can learn to be more tolerant of the rest of us "dummies" -- that whole "social intelligence" thing is so overrated. The school should get with her program.

Can we stop with the posts asking questions about sick kids? I mean, enough is enough already. I cannot log onto this forum without having to read yet ANOTHER description of some kid's snotty nose, croupy cough, sore throat or weird rash. Can't all those parents of sick kids just ask their questions on a separate forum? It is really getting to be old -- and flu season hasn't even started yet. PLEASE people, enough with the sick kids.

My DH really wants a third child. We already have two, a boy and a girl. I am really concerned that if we had a third, we might have a GiftedandTalented child. I have a couple of Gifted children in my family, so my chances are higher than normal. I have seen first hand what a painful struggle it is to raise a Gifted Child and I'm just not sure I can go through that. Also, I am under 28 and I heard that my chances of having a Giftedandtalented baby are about one in 25 at my age, and go down considerably each year. I tempted to wait until I'm 40, when my chances of having a Giftedandtalented baby are about one in a billion. Should I be happy with my two normal, healthy children or tempt fate by trying for a third? Thanks!

As a first-time expectant mom I was ready to sign off DCUM forever after reading just a few threads (and also because how can anyone consistently use the acronym DCUM with a straight face? I suggested DC Urban Parents to my husband this afternoon only to realize that it spells DCUP - even better, although a little out of reach for some of us). This FANTASTIC thread restored my faith.
Any chance there's other people on this thread who are also expecting in the spring and want to hang out this summer and beyond? My kid is going to public school someday, we don't even own a car, we live in the very unhip Silver Spring (close to the metro), and I have eaten a piece of decidedly non-healthy, non-vegan, non-macrobiotic (whatever that is) chocolate cake every day for the past week, despite my pregnancy (the horror!). Any other sane moms-to-be out there who anticipate needing some adult conversation after the baby comes?

My 99.99th percentile gifted child is always needing something so I find I have to spend all of my free time online looking for support. It is really tough and my marriage is suffering because of it. I cannot find time to care for my not so gifted children. How do you deal with an off the charts child and live a normal life? Is it even possible?

Yes - there are indoor toilets, but there's not always soap to wash your hands.
