For all his big talk about fitness, Hegseth was probably the only Army guy in the room without a Rangers tab. And he's definitely the only person in that room that insists on having a powder and makeup room for his public appearances.

All in all, a good show for the military. And Hegseth in particular came across as weak and pathetic as he always does. And Trump continued to do Trump things.

I think these officers felt a lot of responsibility in the moment. The mediocrity in the civilian leadership is breathtaking.

I’m the OP and I have to imagine the disgust these brave men (and hopefully women) felt listening to these speeches, threats made (if you don’t like what we are saying leave and see what happens) being told that hazing and instilling fear in our troops is the future of our military. Being scolded for not cheering for frump. This is shameful.

I'm sure there are some that feel as you do. Most likely approve of most, but not all of the changes. And, there are some who are all for it.

I think of someone I know on an ROTC hike/march. They had a time limit and his group was falling behind. He had to carry a female cadet's backpack because she was slowing them down. Some of what Hegseth said has value.

For better or worse Hegseth seems to enjoy pretty broad support among the enlisted (saying this based on both professional experience and personal connections). Many feel the top brass and political leaders are out of touch.

Of course they think this! They are 20 and don't have the intellect to be generals. Hegseth and his idea that bravado+pushups = warrior is a lot more appealing to them than the recognition that they will never be top officer material.

NP, explain “real world” training in the context of war? What aspect of their “training” do you see playing out on the streets of our country? Add to this the Posse Comitatus Act (look it up) and the suggestion that we use us military personnel domestically is illegal.
