But according to two Pentagon officials, Hegseth asked Adm. Alvin Holsey to step down, a de facto ouster that was the culmination of months of discord between Hegseth and the officer. It began days after President Trump’s inauguration in January and intensified months later when Holsey had initial concerns about the legality of lethal strikes on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean, according to former officials aware of the discussions.
Not long after, Hegseth announced that Holsey would be retiring.”

OT for this thread but the Pentagon press corps seems to be doing just fine after being ousted from the building. 🙂
This is not from the pentagon press corps. There really is no one covering the the pentagon/DOD.

Everyone in that chain of command is in a world of trouble.
Pretty damn positive three star GO/FOs don't make ROE decisions without legal counsel; so there's that. If the target was a valid military target and hasn't done anything to indicate surrender, I don't see the issue. Was the boat still floating? Okay, sink the boat. That's what Navies do. Shoot at threats until they sink. If you are engaging an enemy man 'o war and it is obvious that the ship is sinking, but the combatants are maintaining pursuit of their mission, then they are valid targets. Being wounded is not some sort of double jeopardy. Has the individual surrendered? If you let them go will they go back to the hospital, get healed up, and come back and continue their mission? Nope, they are a valid military target. If it is sinking, ie., is not sunk, then keep shooting. Did the boat run up a white flag or did they raise their hands or otherwise indicate a desire to surrender? Keep shooting. See, KM Bismarck, USS Johnston, pretty much every U-boat ever.
All you people hootin & hollerin about two dead narco terrorists: 200,000+ Americans died 2021-2023 because to fentanyl. What do you say about that?
I mean, if this is the rhetorical hill you democrats want to die on, awesome. I am sure there are lots of moderate fence sitters who will rally to their cause. The left is advocating violence against all sorts of fellow Americans for all sorts of reasons but two criminals trafficking poison to contribute to a quarter of a million US fentanyl deaths is cool. I think not.

then why free Hernandez? You're ok with cocaine deaths?

Obviously Biden’s approach (or lack of any cognizable approach) wasn’t working.

Hello, low-information MAGA warrior. You need to read up on the FACTS about fentanyl and drug trafficking in Latin America.
Fact 1:
Venezuela does not produce fentanyl. It is primarily manufactured in Mexico using precursors from Asia, and it enters the US mainly overland from there—not from South America. US government reports, such as the 2025 International Narcotics Control Strategy Report, identify Mexico as the sole significant source, with no mention of Venezuela as a producer or major trafficker.
Fact 2:
Venezuela is a transit point for cocaine, not fentanyl. The boats targeted in recent US strikes are mostly carrying cocaine to Europe, not fentanyl to the US. Experts from the DEA, UN, and think tanks like WOLA confirm there's no evidence of fentanyl labs or significant trafficking from Venezuela.
Prove me wrong.

Extrajudicial killings are illegal. Period.
US Code doesn't apply outside US territory against non-US citizens. We're not running military actions by the Department of War by judge Boasberg. Have a nice day.
