I dislike the corrupt, unethical, racist power-tripping abusers. Sadly, these are common and the LE culture allows them to get away with it more often than not.
I’ve known some cops personally. Two were really stand up guys. Salt of the earth. One was a good person to anyone he knew and loved, but I suspect he was also willing to break rules and be an SOB to others. I wouldn’t be surprised if he became corrupt over time.
If the police want to improve their image and regain the public’s trust, they did need to have a zero tolerance policy about corruption and abuse.

I resent police because they essentially protect criminals from their victims or from vigilantes acting on the behalf of those victims.
For example- if I observed a guy was breaking into my neighbor’s car, and I sneaked up behind him and hit him over the head with a baseball bat, and he was left with debilitating brain injuries from that - the police would put a lot MORE effort into finding and charging me with assaulting or attempting to murder him than they ever would’ve trying to pursue him for breaking into a car. Or let’s say I was out walking my dogs and I see a man in the process of raping a woman, who’s pleading for help. If I walked up and shot that guy in the head, then kept on walking - the police would search endlessly for me, so they could charge me with murder.
Vigilantism has its own deterrent factor IF it’s allowed to happen without interference. Police interfere with that deterrence. As a result, we live in fear of both criminals AND the police.
That’s why I dislike cops. Because they protect criminals from people like me.
Ooooh. So scary. Go get um Bernie Goetz.
Would you rather live next to Bernie Goetz, or the four criminals he shot on the subway?
Be honest.

What a trite thing to say. Meaningless really.
