The head coach job at McDonogh will attract nationwide attention.
Its a more desirable job than the HC job at Prep (the only people who think differently are the Prep homers)
The MIAA may be a better lacrosse conference than the IAC. And McDonough may have historically been better the Prep and may be today.
But what's that got to do with the desirability of the head coaching job?
Wouldn't that depend on the salary offered, the program budget and the latitude of action allowed? And the expectations of the school?
Nationwide attention? Think about this critically.
These jobs are not that well compensated. And moving from another location is expensive and disruptive. Have you noticed home prices and interest rates are extremely high?
Prep just fired a guy whose record wasn't all that bad. GP dominated the IAC three years ago. So it's not like they can promise long term security. The expectations at McDonough are even higher.
Why would an experienced, highly successful coach leave a good position and expose himself to all this change and risk? Why would they leave a situation in which they are reaping significant benefits from camps and clubs?
That's why this GP rumor has always been highly suspect.
GP is almost certainly going to do what the other DC area schools have done. Which is to publish the opportunity and select the applicant they think is best. The applicant pool is going to consist of college assistant coaches and coaches from "smaller" programs. They will be young enough and mobile enough to move here, if they aren't here already. Their resumes will be just as thin as that of the SJC and Landon coaches.
