What is IPR?

IPR is the non-FFRDC business unit. The corporation has two halves, one FFRDC and one not. Both halves are non-profits.

If only pigs fly out my butt! IPR behind the scenes talks profit!

Do you even work at CNA?

Do you?

Do people work in both business units? I didn’t think FFRDCs could do that.

MITRE used to have a similar setup with MITRE Engenuity

USD/R&E was not happy with that setup, which I think now is gone.

Then they definitely won’t like RAND’s setup.

I heard A&S is looking into this arrangement.

What did R&E think was the problem exactly?

That sounds excessive. Source?

friend who works there and who is very concerned with being employed by October

Tell your friend to update their resume and LinkedIn before they receive an email from their Dept. Head titled "Important Meeting - Please Attend" with a HR Business Partner on copy

I have a feeling that the layoffs at MITRE will be much deeper after October.

Do you think they will affect the indirect side?

absolutely

Of course they can, they just can’t share resources, data, etc. between contracts. But it doesn’t sound like there’s actually much interaction between the two, at least judging by the FFRDC people I’ve asked about it who don’t seem to know much of anything about the other side.

I should’ve been more clear that I was referring specifically to CNA here.

CNA hires people into either IPR or into the FFRDC. Normally, the two staffs are separated. Their layoffs have only been in IPR AFAIK.

RAND allows people to work across their FFRDCs and the domestic divisions, including the new donor-funded division. In fact, they encourage it. Doesn’t seem to be a problem.
