Ugh I was in Michael’s yesterday and some woman had brought in her nasty little dog. Of course some other woman came over and started gushing about the dog. It is just so bizarre to me.

+1 Seems to be a thing at younger startup type companies.

I work for Amazon and it's been a thing there since they were operating out of a garage. It's part of the culture. They're pretty strict on the rules of conduct and I haven't seen any poor behavior in th 5 years I've been there, though don't choose to bring my own in. It is supposed to be cleared by everyone who works near you and they're restricted from certain places so a "wander and bark" dog would be kicked immediately out, but guessing the startups are mimicking this concept without the structure.

My DH’s office is the same. The CEO rescued a dog and started bringing her in everyday under the premise that she had severe separation anxiety. It has since created a domino effect, and there are now 4-7 dogs there on any given day. We have a dog too, but he thinks these dogs at work people are a next degree of crazy.

I don't know kids who do any of these. I have never seen a kid pee in a neighbors yard while walking down the street or run up to a stranger and sniff their butt or steal food from people in a park or sit in a yard unattended while screaming at everyone who walked by. And if I did see a child doing these things I would be very concerned that their parent was negligent and might even call the cops because these are not okay things to do.

But apparently expecting dogs not to do these things is just unreasonable. Doesn't make sense to me.

Well see, dogs are animals who pee and poop outside. Kids are people who pee and poop in toilets.

Ok then the equivalent would actually be people letting their children just waltz into other people's homes to use the toilet instead of having the kids use the toilet in their own house or a public toilet available for public use.

No, see, your grass adjacent to the public sidewalk isn’t the same as the bathroom inside your home.

Most dogs don't roam free and restaurants with outdoor patios often welcome dogs. Why keep your dog locked up neglected in the house all day. That's selfish.

Right but this thread is about the people who take their dogs places they are NOT allowed or let them off leash when they are supposed to be leashed.

You are right most dog owners don't do this but the minority who do are a problem (for everyone including other dog owners). And it is troubling that this minority group seems to be getting bigger.

No one is advocating for neglecting dogs or leaving then cooped up at home all day. But when you take your dog out if the house, you should do so responsibly, keep them on leashes except in designated off leash areas, and not take them into grocery stores or restaurants where they are explicitly not allowed.

You sound very reasonable but also like you haven't read the whole thread and are not familiar with how dog threads on DCUM work. This thread is about anything and everything in terms of behavior because we COULD all agree on offleash dogs but this thread takes a detour where half the people posting spout off about how they intend to pull out their guns and shoot every dog and owner. Then the "no one advocating for dogs being neglected" crowd comes in and gives their fantasy about gas chambers for the owners and dogs who do something like...take up sidewalk space. It's an unhinged place here.
