She didn’t even put out her J Lo album that gave her famous nickname. She wasn’t J Lo yet and in fact that name itself or the idea of getting a different name may have been from Puffy/Diddy himself


I do vaguely remember them becoming "J Lo and P Diddy" around the same time, so I think you might be right.

That’s what’s more heartbreaking-she didn’t fight back - she curled into a ball to make herself as small as possible and protect her softer areas. A clear sign that she’s been abused many many times by him.

NP and I am sorry you experience that level of abuse. I would caution anyone from assuming a natural reaction to any dangerous situation- people go into survival mode and respond in many different ways. It’s like fight or flight. Some people also just freeze.

“Putting hands on” and keeping someone’s name “out your mouth” are two expressions I’ve only seen on Lipstick Alley.


A friend of mine uses the “put hands on” term. It’s urban slang (FWIW she grew up in a MD working class suburb). Honestly I think it makes “beat me up” or “hit me” sound less violent — sort of like ‘passed away’ softens ‘died.’ So I really don’t like the phrase.

Her parents never let her outside. They wanted her performing, rehearsing or learning how to dance and sing in heels at all times. She was laser focused on one thing: getting a record deal. I don’t think school or boys were her priority
