Subsidizing oil companies doesn’t do anything for poor people. Public transit, higher minimum wage, childcare assistance, housing assistance, TANF, and a dozen other programs help the working poor.
Lower gas prices directly help the working poor. Public transit helps only those who live in cities. Where is the legislation to raise minimum wage? TANF is a nightmare program, the US government should be ashamed of it. Childcare assistance? housing assistance? and all the dozen other programs are ONLY for the poorest of the poor.
The working poor can’t qualify for those programs. The drive beater cars (that they can barely afford gas for now) and are in the most desperate situation possible with current inflation and gas prices.
People posting here are very out of touch. Delusional but also arrogant. It’s pretty scary.

You know. This is crap.
Republicans are NOT against clean energy or renewables. What we are against is throwing out the baby with the bathwater. The technology to go full on green is just not there. We cannot yet all drive EV. Not only are they not affordable for most people, but charging stations are few and far between. And, we still need oil and gas to warm our homes. That is just a fact. Even if the technology were there.... the infrastructure in homes is not. It cannot be done overnight or even over a few years. It will take years to transition.
What the left has done is pushed going green to the point that gas and oil companies are holding back on production because they don't want to make the investments to pump when they see the government is trying to make them obsolete. Biden's words today were so full of lies. First off, the oil and gas prices were increasing long before the war in Ukraine. The govt may have "approved" permits, but the BLM has not approved the infrastructure to get the oil out of the ground. The pipes... the roads, etc. So, what is the use of pumping if the oil cannot be moved anywhere?
And, buying oil from Iran or Venezuela is crazy. US has the cleanest production anywhere. If environmentalists really cared, they should be livid about this.
So, what exactly has Biden done that shows he supports oil and gas production in the US? Nothing.
What he SHOULD do, but won't, is to bring in oil and gas executives and have a meeting. He should ask them what they need to ramp up production so that Americans can get some relief. You know.... talk to the experts.

How much more inflation will Americans be able to tolerate? Food and fuel are skyrocketing. Housing costs are skyrocketing. $7/gallon will be the straw that breaks the camel's back. We should have never gutted our manufscitng base because leadership listened to those fools.
7 dollar gas? Try 10 or 15 dollar gas. It will come. But is all short term. I would not worry about fuel as an inflation issue. yes it is an issue but fuel will come back down. No one should worry about this.
Your other points do not make a lot of sense. Fed is not favoring stock market over inflation. Globalism is here to stay -- supply chain issues are not because of globalism, In fact we are about to embark on globalism on steroids after this war and after we come out of covid.

You sound like a ideologue who just hates cars. There’s a reason the former COO of Metro resigned. Buying an entirely new fleet of trains only to recall them all for months because they’re unsafe is not a trivial matter. It is an embarrassing stain on a system that already was embarrassing for the capital of a developed nation.
And yes, I’m all for spending a lot more for transit, changing zoning laws to incentivize higher density next to transit, etc. Hopefully we can do it for a lower cost than is being incurred for the metro in NYC and our costs are more in line with what they pay per mile of public transit in France.
What I’m definitely not for is a bunch of privileged UMC and rich folks lecturing already financially stressed working class and middle class people about the nobility of suffering under higher gas prices while all of this infrastructure is yet to be built.
PP here. I am not a Republican. I am also not a neoliberal yuppie who doesn’t care about the material concerns of the working class when gas prices rise. People living paycheck to paycheck are going to feel this, not the average UMC white collar worker on DCUM. Build the infrastructure and cheaper carbon neutral alternatives first, then I won’t care so much about rising gas prices.
We have been fighting to build this infrastructure for decades. Republican opposition is the reason why poor people have fewer options in this country than any other modern country in the world. This is exactly what Republicans want.

Except Putin is also moving now to ban exports of wheat, palladium, nickel, and other commodities.
Sorry, but all of that green tech you dumb democrats love so much is entirely dependent on extracting metals like nickel and cobalt from highly unstable parts of the world, or from countries like Russia. They also require fossil fuels to extract and purify. You ivory tower liberals have your heads completely in the clouds and know zero about your green economy.

Not sure what point you think you are making. Oil also finances authoritarian regimes and has since day 1. It doesn’t make sense that you would try to use that as a reason to advocate against more efficient energy sources.
