It’s fine if they want to defend their decision but they need to be transparent.
The Western HS clearly was in line for FY 2021-2026 money as far back as the 2016 CIP. It did not jump in front of any other projects. Again, you are just upset that planned money is being spent that doesn't benefit you, when you thought your projects had caught a break when the Saudis got the land and were going to skip ahead.

Herndon doesn’t have 700 seats, unless you want it to be at 100% capacity.
The over crowded schools are not that close to Herndon, to get the kids there you would need to shift boundaries far more so then is happening now. Given how well the current shift is happening, it is not surprising that was not selected.
The schools that could be moved to Herndon would greatly increase the FARMs percentage, which would only make the issues with herndon test scores and the like worse.
The Western School has been needed for 20 years, it has been in the CIP because it was needed. A school, conviently at the site that the Western School was supposed to be built, came available. The County bought it. It will bring donw over crowding in 2 schools and prevent over crowding at 3 more schools.
The number of students that needed to be moved out of Chantilly and Centerville is greater then the seats available at Herndon.
McLean needs to be renovated in a bad way and it is not the only school. The need for a new school and renovation exist at the same time. Sorry that the area that has been asking for this for 20 years was able to get the school before McLean was renovated. I also suspect that your main concern with those Herndon spots is making sure that no one from Langley is moved into those open spots.

The recommendations could be posted on Board Docs before Thursday night. There is a School Board meeting on Thursday night where Reid presents her recommendations to the SB but they could be posted earlier. It’s still ridiculous that they haven’t been posted already, but Reid has shown time and time again that she doesn’t know how to manage a school system this large.
I wonder if they’ll change the contents of the CIP so it’s harder to tell how much is being spent on Western and which projects have been delayed or ignored as a result of the purchase of KAA.
I'm not any more concerned about those future projects being delayed than you were when the projected money in the 2016-18 CIPs for the Western HS got delayed. That Western money was projected to be spent FY 2021-2026, so it looks like we are right on target.
The difference is that the western school was always described as a long-term project subject to further delays or cancellation, whereas the large and unanticipated expenditure on KAA may delay projects already underway or scheduled to start in just a few years. That’s why the CIP could be interesting, or why they may try to obfuscate the impact.
But thanks again for letting us all know you think a new western high school is the only thing that should ever matter to anyone.
Every future planned project is "subject to further delays or cancellation" until the contracts are signed and the money is spent. You keep applying that qualifier to the Western HS in order to dismiss it while trying to pretend it doesn't apply to anything else in the CIP. No projects that are underway have been affected, despite your fear mongering. It is possible they could save some money on the Centreville expansion now - but that hasn't been discussed except on here as far as I know.
Please lie some more. You get less convincing with every post. It’s exactly why we want to see the next CIP and find out if they’ve found some way to hide the ball about what projects have been delayed as a result of the decision to spend so much money on Western.
It's obvious you are trying to frame this a certain way to support your viewpoint. When the Western HS kids lost their money it was fine because it wasn't really planned yet, but if it's some project you care about then it's a tragedy and that money was stolen from them. If the CIP comes out and anything is delayed (like the Western HS was before) you'll cry about it. If nothing that was actually planned and scheduled to start is delayed (maybe due to Centreville savings or by front loading the spending of bond referendum money) then you'll claim they're "hiding the ball" whatever that means.
The facts are that this Western HS was identified as a need, and the money was planned to be spent. You are just upset that it actually happened and the projects that would benefit you weren't able to jump ahead in the line like it looked like was going to happen over the past few years.

No one wants to move to 6-8
Most of the middle schools are 7-8.
The 6-8 middle schools need to be eliminated so the middle schools are uniformly 7-8.
You don't speak for everyone. 6-8 MS provides more opportunities for talented students, whether it be academically, musically, athletically (so weird FCPS doesn't have middle school sports like the rest of the state), etc.
All future CIP planning should emphasize building or expanding middle schools to handle 6-8 rather than adding any capacity to elementary schools.
We have lived all over tge country.
Never have we seen school sponsored middle school sports beyond fun club type sports like running clubs.
The only exception is private schools.
FCPS does not have sports for middle schools? That’s wild to me.
I grew up in PWCS and middle school was 6-8 and we had sports. Is that not the norm around NOVA anymore?

It COULD be posted before Thursday, but given their track record, the document won’t be posted until Friday, and the community will feed off screen caps captured during the presentation at the school board meeting.
