I have symbols representing us, tied to a family totem. As a single parent it’s meaningful to me but surely no one else would never infer what the tattoo represents.

The beautiful thing about my tattoos (I live out west - they’re ubiquitous so none of this stiff lipped small minded “trashy” talk here) is that they’re for me. I’m glad that I don’t judge other people for how they choose to look, or dress, or adorn their bodies. Love the wrong from people who choose not to tattoo, and from those who enjoy it. Life is hard let’s not quibble about decorations or personal meaning or symbolism, shall we?

DP. I'm 38 and dislike all tattoos equally. On everyone. But perhaps that counts as elderly!

My husband has some. It wasn't a dealbreaker, obviously. But is it attractive? Not particularly. Especially now that they're all faded and he's lost interest in maintaining them or getting new ones.

I can take or leave tattoos but names just look so basic. If you’re gonna get a tattoo make it good, creative, artistic, something.

Thinking of my long-ago neighbor who after her third baby, got a tramp stamp tattoo with each child’s name in a flower! I know because she had to show everyone at our 2003 block party. It was pink and glittery, just like her Juicy Couture velour sweats!

I see the appeal, but as a parent of older kids, I don’t recommend it. The relationship you have with your kids will change over time; raising a kid is a process of them becoming less and less “yours.” Yes, you always love them wholly and completely. But now that my kids are older, it would feel odd and almost possessive (? Not the word exactly but it’s the best I can come up with) to be wearing them on my own body.

No and they make me cringe. The ones dedicated to their sons in particular just scream “future mother in law from hell”.

I have our birth flowers tattooed and was planning to get their names in their hand writing a bit later.

The term “evergreen” means that trees will keep growing leaves as other leaves fall off. Pine trees symbolize longevity, virtue, and solitude. I have three tiny (less than an inch) black evergreen trees on my inner elbow for my three daughters.

i have tattoos. flowers, mostly.

once i'm done breastfeeding, i'd like to get our birth month flowers done (DH, DS and mine).

Nicknames can change, so just keep that in mind. I have tons of friends who had nicknames when they were little that they don't now, even though EVERYONE called them that.

I don't personally have any tattoos because I do think they're trashy, but you shouldn't care what I think!

I personally dislike name tattoos, footprint tattoos, photo tattoos, etc. But to each their own!

I don't have it yet. I usually wait a few years and if I still want the same tattoo, then I get it. But I plan to get a celtic motherhood knot when I turn 40, I may try to incorporate my daughter's name or initials into the design. I already have a triskele on my wrist that I picked out at 20 and got at 30. Her father is planning to get a small tattoo tied to his nickname for her.

I know someone who lost her baby at birth. She got a lovely tattoo of his footprints over her heart.
