That's interesting because I've always been asked to show ID.

Unrelated, but I was turned away years ago after showing ID. The poll worker said that my record had been purged from the system because I didn't vote in a long time.

You must be a resident of Virginia to vote in Virginia and show a Virginia Driver's license or other ID from the state. Report her.

I oppose voter ID laws. And my very real situation today where my spouse forgot their ID and showed up 15 minutes before the polls closed is a perfect example of why I oppose voter ID laws.

It's a needless hassle, and I'm sure she wouldn't have gone back to show ID because the results would've been in. I'm glad her vote counted with a sworn statement accurately affirming that she is who she says she is under penalty of perjury.

I'm a lefty who is all for more identification at the polls. I just don't trust this administration to implement any of it. Data shows us that there is exceedingly little fraud going on. But for future elections, I do think it's best practice to require identification when you vote, and perhaps have a voter card system, or establish a national ID system that's used for all transactions. A driver's license is state dependent, not all people drive, and it's not a document that is unique to US citizens. All countries in the developed world have stricter voting laws than the USA.

We really should be thinking about this. Just after Trump leaves.
