Inherited a 12 year old Miele dishwasher and definitely the best I've ever had. Not it's 17 years old and 0 issues.

We run our dishwasher a lot. But I have changed how I take care of my dishwasher and sink. First of all, all dishes scraped and soaked in the sink with water. Clean filter every day. No tablet of dishwasher detergent. I am always using the gel detergent. In smaller quantities than recommended. Using rinse aid. And vinegar. Clean the sink erator regularly too.

Use the options in the dishwasher. Is there a rinse and hold option as you wait for enough dishes to fill the dishwasher? Use that if you do not want to hand pre-rinse. Clean filter regularly. Also, fill the bottom of the dishwasher (with the filter out) and with water and some baking soda and drain the dishwasher....it will clear out any funky smell. (I found it better than affresh).

Also, have a stainless steel mesh sink strainer in your sink to trap food particles. So that all your plumbing remains as clean as possible.

We bought our kitchenaide 13 years ago. The washer works great. The rack quality is a different story. The cheap plastic wheels continuously break. Other than that, we have been satisfied.

I shudder at the idea of buying a replacement dishwasher. The past 5 years there were so many environmental requirements added to appliances. As a result, the quality of things like dishwashers is now crap and turned what should be a 15-20 year purchase into the appliance verson of temu fast fashion, wear once and throw away.

Enhanced environmental standards are pointless when turns what should be a 15 to 20 year purchase into crap products that end up in a landfill after 3-5 years because they are cheaper to replace than to repair.

This isn’t environmental regulations’ fault. It’s greedy corporations and their planned obsolescence that people tolerate.

Dishwashers and modern detergent are designed to clean dishes that have been scraped and not pre-washed. Detergents are enzyme based and need something to work on.

That is a myth to get you to ruin your washing machine so you have to replace it every 5 years.
