Waitlisted people, where do they go?

Parent of EA admitted student here. It is very coach dependent at MIT. The coaches who have luck with recruits have done extensive pre-screening, including ensuring highest level course rigor, minimum SAT/ACT 1530+/35, independent research, and top grades earned in BC Calculus or Physics Mechanics by time of application (if your school offers). Entire scores for EVERY APs/SAT/ACT taken must also be submitted to MIT too, regardless of whether you want to superscore or don't like it. When my child applied, coach said don't even mention the sport on application. Use the space to discuss research or other significant academic/intellectual/musical accomplishments. I know process can be demoralizing but there are so many great research schools out there so try not to focus on just one school.

That's not true. My coach of 30+ years says far more athletes that he endorses get rejected than accepted. No where near 30%

My kid is waitlisted at Harvey Mudd too! But he has gotten some solid offers already, so it is OK.

My DD was rejected also. 4.0 UW, 6 APs (taking another 6 senior year), 1560, an international award in a STEM competition, research through a competitive summer program, two varsity sports, etc. Wasn't expecting to get in due to the ridiculously low odds. Moving on.

For anyone, it's an extremely long shot. Consider it more of a lottery than anything else.

My friend has been doing alum interviews for years in DC. Every single applicant they've recommended has been rejected. Including ones from TJ.

You need national or international awards. If you don't have it, you aren't getting in.
