I am half European and I would rank US public bathrooms solidly in the upper half comparaitively. The minimum standard here is a lot higher than the minimum standard elsewhere.

That is about the nicest thing I'll say about the US these days.

As for OP, I remember the first time I saw a public urinal in France. Whoa! And, of course, the common practice of young French boys peeing in public.

Yes. When I moved to China for work, one of the apartments the realtor showed us had a squat toilet. And they were in many restaurants. I encountered squat toilets at a few places in Kyiv and Sofia, too.

The dirtiest bathroom I ever saw was at a little pub in the Czech countryside.


All these European squat-toilets make me not want to visit there.

I've encountered the squat toilets with the hole in the ground in France at several places with blobs of someone's feces sitting on the porcelain on the ground.

American toilets and bathrooms are luxurious.

It's the same now. Was there 2 weeks ago and encountered that in several very nice cafes.

American bathrooms are generally kind of middle of the pack to me. They're no Japan but there's worse out there.
