This is the case at most schools- ivies and top colleges are populated with kids with hooks. Legacies, athletes, musicians, actors, etc.

I'm the poster you're responding to and I agree that this is traditionally true. However, there are issues that kept that from being true for this year's freshman class. A lot of families left and they had trouble filling the class from the wait list. It's only one year so it's not exactly a trend and I imagine that Maret's admissions will figure out a way to correct their yield for next year.


Is there any particular reason why families left ?

I'm the poster you're responding to and I agree that this is traditionally true. However, there are issues that kept that from being true for this year's freshman class. A lot of families left and they had trouble filling the class from the wait list. It's only one year so it's not exactly a trend and I imagine that Maret's admissions will figure out a way to correct their yield for next year.

I don’t think it’s that socio economically diverse. The school is very careful selecting prospective families with very high potential for donations.

It is typical for a number of families to change schools before high school but Maret had an especially large number leave this year so while the classes are typically 80-85 in the Upper School, it wouldn't surprise me if the freshman class was an unusually small one.
