I refused to buy a Tesla even though DH loves his.

I bought the Cadillac LYRIQ instead and love it.

normally leasing is not financially smart, but there are some strong ioniq incentives right now...

Made them have longer trip distances than currently.
Made them for half the price they are now.
Made them to last longer than 10 years.
Made them more user friendly to work on.

Of course some of those requirements, such as the last three, should apply to all new vehicles.

Ignorant take.

Agreed. Sounds like someone has bought into the anti-EV myths.

The other poster needs to educate themselves more. They only have two somewhat valid concerns - range (which is improving) and price. Price could come down significantly, but the current Administration is working against that.

Tesla the only good one??? You need to do a little bit of research. There are EVs in every shape, performance specs and size. Tesla’s design is 10 years old at this point. 2027 and after there are cars coming out with 800 horse power and 500 mile range, charging times of 5-10 minutes, cars that beat the Tesla’s top model but cost 25k, etc. There are so many choices.

You really have to list what is important to you and how you will use the car.

You might take a look at the Equinox EV. There are several trim levels (and have AWD versions), but if none of them meet your standards, you can also look at the Cadillac Optiq, which is Cadillac's version of it. Another option is the BMW i4 which also has an AWD version.

There are great leases on the Equinox EV but there are also lots of incentives. So you can get a good deal either buying or leasing. For the BMW, leasing might be a better option since the $7,500 lease loophole can be used.

Just got the Subaru Solterra Limited. Luv it. Essentially, the same car as the Lexus RZ450 for $20k less. Toyota and Subaru manufacture these together.

I really like my Polestar 2--comfortable and very fast. I have a level-2 charger in my garage so its always charged up for my commute and weekend errands. I did 600 mile road trip in February when it was very cold and range took the biggest hit. The car ate up the miles. Public charging worked well but takes a bit of planning. The trick is to ride the fast part of charging curve and then stop. I'm leasing to take advantage of the tax credit. I had a Model 3 as a rental car last week and the driving experience was a class below the Polestar--tons of road noise, crashy suspension, and cheap interior (although the seats are comfortable). Will look at the Ioniq 5 and Polestar 4 when my lease is up next year.

Wait for Rivian R2. The headlights will grow on you.

How about Polestar?

If you don’t mind the Chinese government tracking you.

Polestar 3 is made in South Carolina.

With 0% Chinese content?

What car has 0% Chinese components or raw materials?

If it did the car would be a lot less expensive. New cars in the US average about 50k. If we had free trade the cost of a new car would drop 25k-30k. I really do not understand why everyone is fine with paying a tax of 20k-25k to keep maga union member working. They would not do the same for you.

Not correct. The UAW endorsed Biden and NPR estimates that 60% voted Democrat. We Dems need to find better a way to support the working class and not insult workers to recapture the majority: https://www.npr.org/2024/02/27/1234114362/the-uaw-endorses-biden-but-that-doesnt-necessarily-translate-into-votes

Are you interested in a hybrid engine?

Don't want a hybrid. No more oil, transmission, spark plug, heat/water pump changes/fixes please.

I did like the Volvo c40. Tesla model 3 (but won't buy Tesla). Rivian is SUV is OK but don't like the headlights, and it's too big. Audi etrons q4-q8 are ok, but everyone I know who has ever bought an Audi has hated them due to maintenance costs and reliability. New Honda prologue looks nice, but received mediocre reviews.

You will get a good deal on a Prologue, and if you feel comfortable with the Honda dealership, then you should have an okay experience there. Make sure you work with one that has sold more than a few EVs.

Are you planning to buy and hold or lease? Leasing can be financially stupid at times but EVs are going through a period of technological change. If you are a low mileage driver, it might actually be a good bridge to the future.

Funny you mention Honda dealerships, because we recently bought one (DMV location) and had a terrible experience. Had I known how shady they are, we would not have purchased one.

While I love the car and driving it (so zippy compared to my previous minivan), the electronics are freaking annoying and I am sure it is the same throughout the line. For example, this week, my "back up camera was unavailable", my Spotify wouldn't play for 2 minutes, and my mirrors didn't tilt down down upon going into reverse. These are all problems that occur randomly, with no rhyme or reason. I have 1.5 years left on the lease, and although I like the Volvo brand, unclear I will get another one unless they hire some better software people.

There is a recall for the backup camera issue:

https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/car-recalls-defects/volvo-recalls-cars-and-suvs-to-fix-backup-cameras-a1089683372/

There may have been an over the air software update during the past few days.

wow thanks. Volvo did not tell me this, wouldn't that have been nice. When i did some digging in the app, it says software updates are available OTA 3 weeks after they are released to the dealerships. The recall above says don't use one pedal driving until you fix this. You think Volvo would have told me this if it was really such a safety issue.

Volvo is Chinese owned.

We love our Ioniq5. We think it looks cool, but its design isn’t for everyone. We are planning to drive to Chicago in it this summer.
