Maryland is maddening with the place names though.

I agree! As a long time 20852 resident, who pays Rockville City taxes, I cringe when I hear my newer neighbors refer to our neighborhood as N Bethesda.
I also think SoRo (South Rockville) is a good description. We are the southern most part of the City of Rockville, closer to White Flint than Rockville Town Square.

Anonymous wrote:Thankfully I never encountered any of these annoying people on this thread that snort when somebody calls that area North Bethesda. It’s just a helpful way of giving directions at this point. I get that through development trends, there wasn’t a sense of place between Bethesda (inside Beltway) and Rockville proper (outside Beltway). But now there is.
I live in 20852, inside Rockville city limits so I say I live in Rockville. I will say that Pike and Rose is in North Bethesda, it’s easier to give a sense of direction: downtown Rockville is like 2-3 miles north and 2 metro stations away! They’re definitely different places in my mind
Anonymous wrote:However, if you call it Rockville, you really have to describe where you are as Rockville is huge (closer to Bauer drive, vs downtown Rockville vs the Willows etc…). If you call it N Bethesda, everyone knows where you are talking about. So is it really a big deal? It’s not vanity signaling like it once was.

This. White Flint mall was IN Rockville. You zipped up Rockville pike to go to Rockville to go to the White Flint mall. Anything after that is even Rockville too. Not sure how this is confusing. And White Flint is still a great name for the area. Everyone knows where that is. Where the Dave & Buster's was!
White Flint Mall had a 20895 zip code, which is Kensington.

It’s a status thing for real estate as is north Potomac. I used to live in a part of Rockville (20854) within the Rockville city limits and my mail was routed through the post office at River and Falls. So many people called it Potomac. I never did as it was not actually Potomac.
Lived here since 1975, and 20854 is Potomac.
I live in 20854 and we are considered Rockville. 20852 is better described as N Bethesda so I’m not sure why this upsets people. And my neighborhood, Potomac Glen is actually closer to N Potomac than anything else.
It seems like people want Rockville to be half our county but I don’t understand why.
