Those who choose not have their children in a mask will be the people who remove the option to learn in person for those who wear masks.
(Although I heard it was 3 feet and not 6, but with increased enrollment, 3 feet still means "the next desk over" in 6 directions.)
My friend's class has 5 positive cases.

I can't anymore with the teachers. Yes, it is a tough gig and the pay sucks and you are doing God's work, but are you *really* scared? Like maybe the first month or two of Covid 2020, but you realize now the most dangerous part of your job is driving to work? Statistically speaking of course...

Teachers never signed up to teach under these conditions. Yet, here we are, doing it “for the kids”. Encouraging your kids to wear a good mask would be a sign of good will. Are we “scared”? +1. Kids do not care. This is so sad. I’m so sorry for the teachers and staff and for families with health risks. The message could not be clearer that the diocese does not value or care for its vulnerable population. It cares for its wealthy political donors. Quite a message to send, while the Publics continue masking to protect those within their walls.

A couple of months ago I was at the funeral of a parent in our school community who died of Covid. She left a young elementary student motherless. We have teachers going through cancer treatments, who are over the age of 65, who care for elderly parents. I genuinely do not understand your attitude.

I am the teacher who posted this. I am the cancer survivor and parent to two school age children. I do not feel comfortable teaching unmasked students. I don’t see how some people cannot have empathy. I feel like too many in our society think only about “Me, Myself and I”. I taught hybrid last year in a mask. I am also teaching this year. Do any of you know hard it is to teach in a mask. It is one thing to have to wear one for a meeting here or there, or to go to the store. Teachers have had to put up with so much during the pandemic. Diocesan teachers supppied in-person teaching last year. We bent over backwards. Our school has 30 kids per class. Our admin had to find extra space in the bulding to separate kids. We gave up lunch periods, planning periods “for the kids”. Now, when we just want to feel safer during this surge, the true colors of many families are showing. The Bishop’s letter just made it easier for me to quit my job. I will probably push throufh till the end of this school year “for the kids”.
Just wanted to say I’m very sorry. My kids will be in masks this week, and I hope most of their peers will be as well. My heart really goes out to our administration and teachers who’ve been put in this difficult position.
