FCPS dropped the ball here, LCPS will gain with such move as AOS and AET will be targeted by educated parents who want their kids to be academically motivated and competitive. Good opportunity for LCPS to grow their new magnet school with kids who would be otherwise going to TJ.

For the sake of diversity should we make selections to sports team also by lottery? Can a team selected by lottery perform well or win? TJ's ranking will go down the drain and will be just another high school.

This is what the Liberal Left wants to happen-all in the name of equity and fairness, forget meritocracy!

Accepting more undeserving kids who can’t handle the workload won’t help the school be what it was intended to be. Other consequences will include property values tanking once families don’t seek out FCPS any longer once it destroys this school with liberal politics. Can’t wait to move out of this cesspool of the radical left agenda..

I am asian parent with a kid currently taking after school enrichment program for math and I have been considering sending my kid to TJ prep in future. However, I have to admit current TJ admission process is heavily skewed towards prepping and those who can afford them. So, it is definitely not fair to some minorities, economically disadvantaged and less educated/informed parents. While I do agree that the process needs to be changed, though I do not lottery system is a good idea. There will be many deserving kids who will lose out in the lottery including those in the very same disadvantaged kids that the new process intends to target. May be there needs to be an IQ like test that tests critical thinking which not specific to subject areas followed by an interview with some weight to teacher recommendations to interested students who meet the minimum bar. I wish there is some quota just to get over the whole problem!

Oh my god! I am so offended by this post! Please stop being racist!

What do you mean that too many Asians are bad, but other races are okay? How much do you really hate Asians? This is so offensive and the internet does not need this terrible content.

I don't think second PP understands what "facetious" means.

So everyone is a victim. Those who choose to rise above will rise above.

Then please address it to the Black and Hispanic student with a straight face.

They do it within their own families constantly. You don't know their life experiences.

I know them enough to understand that not everyone who "didn't rise above it" chose it.
