LOL I see you are at it again. No argument so attack the poster. You know MR would not start for any of those teams. You just like Rapinio. Many posters have gone into detail about MR’s poor play. You ignore the posts and say she goal 6 goals. MR scored two goals from the field. You have some emotional fixation on MR being a great player. All your wishing and hoping does not make it so. Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd are star players of that generation and should be the ones being celebrated(and getting the endorsements). They have done more for women soccer vs MR any day of the week. Putting it in terms you can understand - Alex Morgan scored 6 goals from the field of play vs MR’s 2. Therefore by your own limited soccer IQ, Morgan is 3 x better vs MR. It’s nice you watched the event. See you in 4 years.

I see you don’t have reading comprehension skills either. My argument is that “Rapinio” had 3 times as many goals and assists. Maybe you don’t understand math either. Your personal bias against her no withstanding, she is a great player who has been a constant feature in a team that’s been to 3 straight World Cup finals. I don’t really have to attack you, the stupidity of your post speaks for itself

Please if you think Rapinio should be on that field you know nothing about soccer. She is a liability out there and the team had to cover for her. She scored because of the teams around her. That is why I asked you to explain it to me. I’m happy to hear the reasons behind your opinion if you care to share them.

She can not take player on 1v1, she turns the ball over when pressured(over 8 turn overs in this game in the final 1/3), she has no pace, she is lazy(does not track back or win the ball), she is out of position, her first touch is bad, the other field players must adjust to cover for her because she is out of position, only one defender is sent when she has the ball, her passes are off in terms of weight, touch and timing, etc. etc. She should not be on the field. Oh but she scored 6 goals( 3 penalty kicks, one lucky free kick). She should not be on the field.

And she scored 6 goals and 3 assists, set up 3 scoring chances in the final, vindicating the coach’s choice that she should be on the field. The thing is you guys think every thing you see is so insightful and no one else gets it. Yes we can see when she loses a ball in midfield. And yes at 34, after 3 ACL tears, and with maybe a hamstring issue, the work rate and pace is not what it was. The coach wanted her out there for what she brings in the big moments and she was right. She won the Golden Ball - guess it wasn't based on the every touch video. I know you have learned a lot from watching your little girl play travel soccer - maybe you don't know everything just yet.

Seems like you would start Rapinoe over Ellen White, Dzsenifer Marozsán or Kadidiatou Diani. Wonder how Rapinoe would do on those teams?

Good God, you know very little. Let's go through these one by one.

Ellen White plays the 9 for England. That is Alex Morgan's position. Beth Mead and Jodie Taylor played the 11 for England during the WC. That is Rapinoe's position. To answer your question, Rapinoe would start over Beth Mead or Jodie Taylor if Rapinoe played for England in this last WC. This is not even close to a hard decision.

Marozsan is a midfielder and plays the 10 for Germany. That is Lavelle's position. Huth and Schuller played the 11 for Germany during the WC. That is Rapinoe's position. To answer your question, Rapinoe would start over Huth and Schuller if Rapinoe played for Germany in this last WC. This too is not even close to a hard decision.

Lastly, Diani plays the 7 for France. That is Heath's position. Le Sommer played the 11 for France during the WC. That is Rapinoe's position. To answer your question, Rapinoe would start over Le Sommer if Rapinoe played for France in this last WC. Le Sommer is very, very good, so this is a harder decision than the others. But Rappinoe is also quite good, for all the reasons previously given.

Oh lets play your game. So all players must play their club position on World Cup teams. One example but there are countless others. Dunn is/was not playing her normal club position- winger. Therefore you know nothing about soccer.

PS if you knew anything about soccer and the style preference of the England , German or France, you would know Rapinio would not start at any position. She is too old, too slow, can not pass under pressure and is a turn over machine.

I'm surprised Morgan didn't step up to better represent the whole team -- she is the real captain there.

Anyway, neither of them will be there in 2023. And good news is that there's great new talent.

DP here. You have to look at the entire performance, not just goals. The good: Rapinoe converted 3 penalty kicks and one free kick, all four of which were earned by other players. Rapinoe scored two goals from the run of play (against Thailand and France). Rapinoe had three assists. Rapinoe had memorable celebrations. Overall, her numbers were similar to Morgan's numbers: the same number of goals and assists. The bad: Rapinoe played no defense and did not track back. This could have been the coaches instructions, but it weakened the team's defense. Rapinoe was a turnover machine when she tried to dribble or pass. This may be expected from a winger to a degree, but it did appear that she was turning the ball at a really high rate. If I were an outside back, I would rather face Rapinoe than someone like Diani, Le Sommer, Heath, Martens, etc.

Fair points, but the prior post with the player ratings for all of the games would seem to rate Rapinoe's entire performance, not just the goals, as one of the best on the team for the entire WC. That is not to say that she couldn't have played better, and does not deserve criticism for aspects of her play. But she was quite good on a team filled with players that proved to be the best of all the other teams.

+1

You can assign some arbitrary grade, but here's a snapshot of Rapinoe's performance in the final:

62% pass success
2/14 duels won
1/7 dribbles successful
0 tackles ATTEMPTED

And she got player of the match after this performance! No wonder people are calling bull on the best player in the tournament award!

There is no way a competent coach would start Rapinoe over Le Sommer. When both of them played for Lyon, Le Sommer was tied for the 4th on the team in scoring and tied for 9th in assists, while Rapinoe was not in the top ten on the team in either categories.

LOL Rapinoe should not be on the field. Seriously she is not of the quality the rest of the team. Do you know much about soccer? Even the political correct 1/2 time show was talking about subs. It’s was Rapinoe they were talking about.

DP. Can you explain further? Perhaps I don’t understand soccer very well, but I’m having a hard time understanding how she said not as good as the rest when she saw one of their leading scorers.

Please if you think Rapinio should be on that field you know nothing about soccer. She is a liability out there and the team had to cover for her. She scored because of the teams around her. Again how did she score the goals? Did she create chances? No. Any time the ball went to her and she was pressured it was a turn over. Press is better. Dunn is better. Seriously talk to a few people who know soccer. You obviously know nothing about soccer.

Your stupidity and bias don’t hold up against her contributions towards winning this World Cup. She was clutch, sorry. Cry about it, go yell it out in public through a megaphone. But she’s a back to back world champion.

LOL. My 12 year old DD and friends said pretty much the same as the pp. They were very disappointed to see her bad play receive awards. I guess you think the place kicker on the Patriots is the reason they win super bowl?

The thing is you guys think every thing you see is so insightful and no one else gets it. Yes we can see when she loses a ball in midfield. And yes at 34, after 3 ACL tears, and with maybe a hamstring issue, the work rate and pace is not what it was. The coach wanted her out there for what she brings in the big moments and she was right. She won the Golden Ball - guess it wasn't based on the every touch video. I know you have learned a lot from watching your little girl play travel soccer - maybe you don't know everything just yet.

+1. I also wonder if any of the people here saying Rapinoe doesn’t belong out there anymore have ever played a team sport in any meaningful way.

Its so funny there are so many defenders of Rapinoe. I guess you all have never watched or played soccer. Glad you turned in for the World Cup. She was bad. Here lets do a little game. Who would you the self appointed soccer experts remove from the starting lineup of Germany, France or England to make room for Rapinio? Should be an easy call.

Happy to hear your or other's opinions about Rapinoe, but the following were the player ratings, for the games Rapinoe played, from the BBC's website, which one would think is a neutral source for USWNT player ratings, as well as a sports page and audience that presumably knows a thing or two about soccer. As you will see, Rapinoe was the 2nd highest rated US player for the knockout stages, and was the 4th and 3rd highest in the two Group stage games in which she played, Sweden and Thailand, respectively.

But maybe those Brits "have never watched or played soccer", to quote the PP.

How are these ranking determined? The site is just a list of name with a number attached. No explanation as to how the number is generated.

The dutch players all ranked higher than any US player on that poll.
