It’s weird because with the exception of Cal and UCLA, in past years they move a lot. UCSD 30%, UCD 40%, UCI 60%, UCSB 80% in past years and this year it’s crickets. DS has a friend who is hoping to get off a waitlist to the school DS turned turn. DS was originally considering choosing UCSD if he got off the waitlist but now he’s set with a roommate, scoped out classes, bought the water bottle and doesn’t want to change.
Something is up with the UCs as it’s unlikely that the mid tiers have figured out yield protection. Either many more people decided to stay in state this year than previous years, they are reducing in state spots to offer more out of state hedging on international students disappearing or they are waiting and start doing in state waves in July. This year it does seem like the stats for OOS admits is crazy lower than for in state which is really pissing people off.
I'm in CA and several classmates of my daughter (Palo Alto HS) have received late waitlist admits from multiple UCs (including UC Santa Barbara, UCI, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz).
