Respect for Harvard! They are on the right side of this fight.

In my DD's class, more are impressed with schools like Harvard that fight than Columbia that caves.

I can also imagine how easily Harvard will be able to fund raise from alums (internationally and domestically) who are equally proud and want to see their alma mater fight back against this bully.

The government isn’t saying that. No one is forcing Harvard to do anything. They have a billion dollar endowment and can do as they please.

What they can’t do is foster an educational atmosphere of harassment and expect the taxpayers to finance it.

How exactly are they fostering an educational atmosphere of harassment? I am waiting.

I don't think the current US administration realizes that, while changes would be difficult, inefficient and time consuming for Harvard, the university does not require federal funding, and does not need to be located in the US.

They are welcome to move out anytime they want. It will save billions in taxes.

Uh…that won’t hurt Harvard. Just the kids who come from non-rich families.

Well, it would wipe out half the school.

That would suck for those kids.

But Harvard has an endless supply of full-pay applicants. Harvard will be fine.

Harvard at most would have to wait out 4 years or when the next Democratic administration comes and pays back every single dollar that is withheld with interest and some.

It is only a matter of managing the time until they get paid.

Harvard will be able to withstand losing federal funds and even tax exempt status. They will have to freeze lots of research and make difficult financial decisions, but they will be able to survive.

I do predict a weakening of financial aid packages for middle and upper-middle income families. Upper class will remain full pay, but their tuition burden will increase. Instead of $85k/year they will be paying $95-100k/year.

Nope. They can be replaced with all the kids from the Sidwell Friends, Andovers, and Georgetown Prep schools. Parents can easily afford the ride and would not bat an eye. Of course, the Harvard experience would be different from years past with little diversity. Shucks, that’s exactly what Trump and company is aiming for, so in the end, Trump might actually get his wish in a back handed way.

Harvard has enough kids who are willing to pay fully without any need of student financial aid. The only kids that suffer are those who cannot full pay. I imagine there will be fewer admissions for them.

Exactly. They are wealthy enough without my hard earned tax dollars.

Better to stop poisoning people, then to endlessly steal from us.

We’ve been sucked into a massive racket.

Defund all colleges and universities is the thing to do. If you don’t attend university, why should our hard earned money subsidize them.

OMG, have you ever taken medication? Do you know someone who has? Who do you think invents them? The level of stupidity and ignorance on this thread is stunning

I know that sarcasm can be difficult to decipher on the internet but try

DP. Exactly. This money is not funding the university, it's funding research that benefits American and humanity that the university excels at doing and earned a grant for through a competitive application process. It's not some handout or subsidy. So many people subject to Trump's propaganda do not understand how the funding works.

And they don’t care to learn.

They get off on their fake narrative and will stick to it, regardless of reality.

Harvard stopped being an University where academic freedom and diversity of views is valued and protected long ago

Their shield should be

Falsitas Praevalet instead of Veritas

Roland Fryer was an unlikely Harvard superstar. Abandoned by his mom at birth and raised by an alcoholic dad, Fryer became the youngest black professor to ever secure tenure at Harvard and won the prestigious John Bates Clark Medal, the prize for the best economist under 40 in the world

Then, in 2018, Fryer’s career was suddenly cut short. Harvard had an official line on why: he’d sexually harassed his staff. Fryer was banned from campus and his multi-million dollar lab was shut down. The few legacy media outlets that did cover the case, such as the New York Times, dutifully repeated the university’s narrative: this punishment was overdue MeToo justice.

No, it wasn’t. Drawing on previously unreported documents and interviews with dozens of Fryer’s friends and colleagues, this documentary reveals his cancellation for what it was: an ideological purge.

Harvard no longer deserves our respect or tax payer money or tax free status.

The have become an embarrassment
