I guess the paradoxical situation is this- a doctor, particularly one that is treating a serious life changing or life ending condition, ends up being the most important person to a patient. Those conversations about decisions /treatments are the most important of one's life and in the end, you get maybe 20 minutes, 10 minutes that are actually just you and the practioner having some sort of discourse about whatever condition that impacts your life 24/7. In the end the Dr leads the conversation and sums it up in MyChart notes and you realize you didn't even need to be there. He or she has left with the same narrative that they walked in with and it's all nicely wrapped up in a paragraph that you don't recognize. And that Dr does this all day, and all week, all month, and all year. $ 360 is billed.

Well, yes, its true that things change, but having quality healthcare that people trust and feel comfortable with should be a non-negotiable, even if the way it can be delivered has changed. There were definitely a lot of BAD doctors and ethical standards that got by for decades because everything was small and local and friendly, not to mention doctors who had no ability to treat complicated or rare things. But having unfriendly doctors who don't know patients and are openly contemptuous of them shouldn't be a thing we just say "well things change!" about.

about 20 pages ago on this thread, I tried making this point and all I got was a bunch of angry vitriol about how it's not doctors fault that they treat you like a customer that they don't really like and who is wasting their time. They have to make money too, I was told. Is it possible that they make slightly less money? Absolutely not, and don't you dare assume they all make millions, because that's not true.

It's so discouraging that we have such terrible care and so many doctors who think they've got no responsibility. It's why there's been a surge in popularity for going to see NPs and places like One Medical. Obviously they're all in business too, but they treat you with less open contempt.
