Are any of the schools used as voting locations? Is that the rationale for having election day off? I could see that being a security challenge, to have all kinds of people in the building.

Yes- most are used. However, we don’t close for Super Tuesday or the VA June primary, so it isn’t clear what makes the November election more dangerous from a security perspective. Except for a presidential election year, the number of voters is not that different in the primary vs the general, now that early voting is available to everyone.

Oh that letter! It's from one of the notorious APEs. Now they are attacking religious minorities who finally got their holidays.

Personally my kids benefit from the holidays. They are appreciated as mental health breaks from a hectic intense schedule.

Hardly a hectic intense schedule with so many days off, early releases, and long weekends. Please.

Your kids' schedule is so intense they can only handle 7 of the first 16 weeks being five days in a row?

They still polluting APS education email lists with their ignorance and aggression. Zero self-awareness.

Oh please. Read the letter before you start in on your ridiculous attacks. Nothing about it is attacking religious minorities. Plenty of people have said “why isn’t my observance on the list”. Are they not religious minorities too? That’s one reason falls church abandoned the policy.

“Unlike APS, Fairfax County Public Schools based its holiday-closure decisions on data regarding staff and student absences, offering Extended Day child care during closures. Falls Church City abandoned religious-holiday closures due to their adverse impact on education, working families and religious equity.”

I sent a message, and Mary Kadera, to her credit, was the only one to respond. Reid's checked out, Dave Priddy and CDT are jokes, and I don't know what Sutton's problem is.

Sutton is a disappointment. She never asks the difficult questions and just spouts nonsense DIA buzzwords that don’t mean anything substantive.

NoVA Democrats consider it racist to complain about adding religious holidays to a public school calendar.

Any suggestions on a message that will get through? It seems like if they are willing to completely discount over 1,000 ranked community opinions, a few emails don’t stand a chance.

Teachers should show up in protest at the next meeting. Why has the AEA been silent on this?

There’s a lot of differing opinions on the ideal calendar among staff

That's funny, because the staff seem to keep bringing up the same ideas time after time after time.
