This. I was raised in a "bad" inner city neighborhood, have been all over the U.S. and world and I can honestly say I was never truly frightened until the day I got lost in Baltimore.

Toledo, OH was on my list. My mom grew up there and told me about taking the streetcar downtown when she was 10. Different times.

On another note, we just had to travel (drive) a lot through NY, PA, WV, and OH and it was just so depressing to see a lot of fellow Americans: overweight, looking generally beaten down, too-tight clothing, tattoos everywhere and I mean everywhere. My husband and I were talking about it and we were both saddened and said, “America is not doing very well, is it?” It was just sad.
Uh, you could have just spent more time in most of DC and come to the same conclusion. It’s full of fat, tattooed slobs who think some random bling makes them look better - and many of them would rob you blind or kill you in an instant if they thought they could get away with it.
