At sidwell, something like 33% of kids are on aid and many more are just over the cut-off. I can imagine their college destinations are very dependent on finances.
You'll feel different when your kid is a senior. It's great that colleges are seeking more diversity. But it's the underqualified non URM kids who buy their way into Ivies or are otherwise connected that is so frustrating.

Actually know a couple of cases in Sidwell. DC said he never knows those kids are Hispanic until others told him they self identified them.

No limit. At least this year there weren’t any limits.

There are very few underqualified kids at Ivys. There are equally qualified that get ahead for some reason.
David Hogg posted his completely mediocre SAT score and GPA on reddit before he became famous. He was rejected from a few degree mill universities, then he got famous, took a gap year, and got into Harvard.
He was most certainly not prepared for the rigor of Harvard. But no idea if he's still there, he took it off his twitter bio?

In seriousness, forget Naviance. This was our first time through the hellhole of college admissions and we thought it was a realistic guide since it used data from our high school. It was worse than useless, it was dangerously useless. They should just take it offline.
Naviance is indeed worthless. It ought to have an asterisks next to every athletic recruit, legacy, and URM -- some kids would have ***. And actually, probably an asterisk next to every name that didn't require financial aid forms (i.e. loaded), as need-blind is fake and we all know it -- a couple of kids would have ****!
Data points like those are actually pretty easy to identify. Just ignore the ED acceptances that are statistical outliers on the chart. Once you ignore those, the remaining data is very informative.

Yeah, I don't understand--the one actual parent of a Sidwell student said the last couple of weeks was a complete turnaround and the kids did great. It was a tough year all around but I'm guessing Sidwell kids did relatively well like hey always do.
Agree. The doubtful posts are clearly from the Ivy obsessed trophy hunters who are probably jealous their kids did not get into Sidwell so they need to bash it. My kids did not go to Sidwell but to private schools in another state. They were very well prepared for college and I have no doubt the Sidwell students are as well.
Also, 10 acceptances is a small sample. It’s the kids who put it on Instagram. My overachiever would never have put her acceptance on Instagram, whereas my lower achiever would in a heartbeat. It’s not a reliable measure.

these are excellent schools...and these are not the only admits, of course...it's Instagram so it's just the kids who have decided to share (probably disproportionately ED or the ones who have already decided...those who have several top school choices may not have decided yet). But to your point, Wake/Dickenson are fine schools. And the other schools are also excellent (Hamilton, Colgate, UVA, Chicago, Vandy)...really fantastic, actually.
My kid is trying to decide between three "T25" schools and likely won't have a decision until the deadline. I am pretty confident others are in the same boat, and will need to take visits, talk to alumni and friends at those schools etc.

1) Wake is a great school
2) The dickenson kid probably has a partial or full ride.
I fail to see the issue.
98% of applicants get rejected from Ivies. Why should SFS students be any different?

My suspicion too. Big 3 really started making a deliberate effort to diversify race and income in their classes about 6-8 years ago. I imagine a lot of kids are going for merit and there’s no shame in that.

Yea. Same at GDS. Something like 9/10 ivies are URM. It's just the nature of admissions in 2022. The sooner you get over this, the happier you'll be.
Not at all true. I personally know two white kids at GDS going to Ivies (HYP- both got in ED) and unless you consider Asians "underrepresented", I'm pretty sure a couple going to Ivies from GDS too...
Ok, so 8/10. I know those white kids too. One is double legacy. The other I don't think so. The rest are overwhelmingly URM. But I'm not here to argue exact specifics.

It always annoyed me that private schools stopped listing their matriculation lists. I thought it was because they weren't as strong as say 20 years ago, but they it's because they don't want the competition. But now kids post them on ig, which I love. I think all the private schools are doing good to great, except maybe Field.
