Does anyone know if that is still the case?

You will probably get better insights from data like completion rates and alumni giving rates (USNWR), and alumni satisfaction (Princeton Review, Niche) than posts on DCUM.

I disagree. I think this is one of the better college threads I’ve read in the past five years!

University of Miami
Football school full of total party people. The academics are a joke.

But the school has never marketed itself well, and especially in the “Oh, I went to Harvard” land of DC, having a degree from what is perceived (however inaccurately) as a stoner school has turned out to be a real hurdle.

May I ask what field you’re in and how old you are? Surprised your undergrad choice would matter much more than ten years out.

Sorry to be the 4th person on here saying this, but I agree. I disliked it right away but wouldn’t transfer because it was so prestigious.

Prestigious among a small portion of the educated, maybe, but zero name recognition among laypeople.

Who cares about laypeople? Are you saying Swathmore grads end up working for laypeople?

Any specifics? We've toured and not sure what to make of it. Seems these days they want, & get, grinder type kids, but it's a really big school with more than premed focus.

Get the hell outta VA if possible

I had a hs friend (we were NOT from VA) who went there and I never got the appeal, honestly. I just didn't find it attractive at all - yes, I visited her a few times (my school was about 2 hours south)

That part of VA leaves a lot to be desired.

The appeal is that it's a good instate school for STEM majors. I don't think anyone chooses VT for the campus or Blackburg

What? I see people all the time talking about how much they love the campus and the town.

I understand about the STEM school part. My friend was an architecture major in the 5 year program.

Fairly certain the PP is a troll who can't stand it when people show love for Virginia schools. VT alumni are extremely loyal and I've never met a VT student who didn't love the school. Again, there's a lot more to it than just STEM.

Oh, I know. It is definitely a different strokes kind of thing. I personally didn't like it, but I know that is just my opinion.

FWIW, my own child might wind up at another school in that area of VA. I actually thought that campus was pretty cute, but the surrounding area is dull. They do play up the natural beauty of the river and mountains. Not really my thing, but the program she is interested in is quite good there and it would be a good fit for her.

NP here. I prefer VT alum to UVA alum, hands down.

I don't think it will easily shake the stink of the Varsity Blues scandal with Aunt Becky's overprivileged youtuber daughter.

Smart rich and attractive USC families don’t give a darn what malcontent proles think of them. USC is elite and will become a top 20 if not too 15 university in the near future.

It already top 20 in some major rankings like this one

Get the hell out of Florida people.

And if you have a college student there get them out before 2024. It is going to be horrific for women. I am not wrong. DH family is well-connected there. What is coming from Republicans is scary as hell. If you think because you are MAGA or Republican they won't come for you too.....HAHAHAHAHA

You went to the College of Crazytown and are doing a great job answering OP's question

It’s loads of fun if you’re in a top tier frat or sorority and only mix with other attractive and rich peers.

Oh, BS. Only 19% of VT students go Greek. There are tons of activities and clubs for everyone there. Seems like the usual troll has found this thread.
