MLSN2 or all of MLS?

Because that doesnt seem possible woth the pro teams.

MLSN1 and MLSN2 having different cutoffs would be ridiculous on so many levels. NAL silver will be the new landing spot for a lot of talented players. The rich ones that want to pretend they are on a pro track will fill out the tier 2 rosters

The pro academies can do whatever they want, that includes 8/1 or 1/1. England pro academies are 9/1. They may not change, but it is absolutely possible.

No one is trolling anyone. MLSN is the best youth soccer league the world has ever known! Watching pro-bound youth players is COMPLETELY different than other leagues. Being a parent of an MLSN Homegrown starter leaves my partner and I filled with unimaginable pride. When I am having a bad day and I feel like kicking the dog, a light inside me shines knowing that my son is basically a professional soccer player.

So smarmy, good for you.

The B tier needs players to.

That’s not funny. My son is turning 16 soon and that age is very sensitive. If MLSN did not stay BY age cutoffs not only would it hurt his chances to keep his starting role if would not make me feel as much like we are part of the internationally respected professional league that can no longer be ignored. Can you imagine having someone at a cocktail party asking what our leagues age cutoff was, and having to say they are designed to mirror the school calendar? I would be horrified!!! This is a professional league for crying out loud! It breaks my heart to know that some people just refuse to see it. The proof is in the soccer at the end of the day. For example have you ever seen an ECNL team beat MLSN, or even come close? Case closed. Mic drop.

If you go to an MLSN game you don’t even have to ask what league the teams are playing in; it is obvious to anyone who knows soccer. Plus let’s be honest their badges are amazing! Honestly they could implement any rule they want and all clubs, parents and players would fall in line. I’ve heard of stories where parents will pay hefty sums just for their kids to ride the bench on an MLSN club, that is how coveted these teams are!

Again hahaha thanks for the humor and entertaining!

I was following until you called out their badges and kids paying to ride the bench. Let me guess pops, youre one of those parents that wear the "league" caps.

The only card to be dropped is if MLS Next tries to double down on BY and introduce independent feeder leagues based on SY. USYS and US Club are all SY and every club's U8-U12 teams will be based on school year. Otherwise, every single team they inherit will be SY and mixed and they will lose a ton of talent to ECNL for the Q4's. Seems like an administrative nightmare and I think it is a forgone conclusion they are going SY unless they are doubling down and putting a plan together to execute it.

This. It’s funny people think this has anything to do with tournaments.

Its funny you think it doesnt.

Some clubs (San Diego Surf comes to mind) make more money hosting tournaments than they do from fielding teams. If a percentage of teams no longer attended your events because they're BY and youve changed to SY thats money you're no longer going to make.

I'm sure some of the MLS clubs host tournaments and are concerned that staying BY will dramatically affect attendance. Also woukd you do BY for boys and SY for girls?

No, I think MLSN is going SY but it has to do with the feeder and entire eco system going SY. If it was about tournaments they would all be SY and MLSN teams would just play up, they don’t care about nonMLS events anyway. The tournament issue is easy to solve, it’s the rest of it that’s the problem.

This is correct. I don't think people are arguing against this really understand how the system works. This will change be an administrative nightmare, once, for US Club (ECNL), USYS and USSSYA. It is going to be more of an emotional one-time nightmare when Q2-3 kids are jettisoning from their teams and dropped down to make room for better Q4's. If MLS stayed BY, they would sign up for this parental lunacy annually as you would have to assess kids from your clubs U13 and U12 teams annually upon entering the ecosystem. MLS did not effectively run their scouting weekend so I guess I won't be shocked it they attempted to go BY without having it properly planned. However, it makes no logistical sense after USYS, US Club and USSSYA went SY. Maybe they will announce a bridge of MLS Next Go and try to bridge rec to MLS Next with U8-12 programming but that is a very TALL order that I don't think they can execute in 3 months as tryout announcements will be pending in February.

Nothing happens either way. Since MLSN and other leagues are completely seperate it will all come down to who is hosting the tournament since this is the only place teams fron different leagues will play each other. If a BY league is hosting the SY teams will need to play up 6 months. if a SY team is hosting BY teams will need to play up 6 months. In the end what will happen is clubs will only participate in tournaments that are grouped like the league they play in.

This is just one of the reasons non MLS people are so interested in MLS changing to SY. Theres so many bad actors with their hands out looking for $$$. I wouldn't be surprised if some club owner with a big tournament is the one pushing for SY so much. They could care less what MLS does but if the decision affects their tournament attendance they'll sit on this thread all day making things up because its free.
The tournaments that matter to clubs bottom lines are the ones they run, not league tournaments. And all clubs will have all or almost all teams SY and hosting clubs want to get as many teams as possible in their tournament s. MLSN teams generally don't go outside the ecosystem other than say pre season so if MLSN stays BY, all non MLSN only tournaments are SY.

If MLSN stays BY they WONT play outside of their ecosystem. Also MLSN clubs will host their own BY tournaments that all the MLS clubs will attend. SY clubs will be invited to attend but they'll need to play up 6 months.

See how it works?

MLSN will go SY otherwise will take a hit on a number of levels if they try to standalone as BY, or they will go the way of ODP and be a niche league. But they will be diminished overall in the youth soccer space if they try to standalone. See how it works?

Nope. MLS Next is backed by MLS (pro soccer) which is the main appeal. Nobody else can do this. ODP is just a glorified Talent ID that anyone can and does do. US Soccer even implements their own Talent IDs which undercut ODP efforts.

Completely different. But nice try.

This has to be a bot. Grok get in touch Dcum?

As long as MLSN is connected to MLS they will always field the top teams.

It's humorous when parents try to paint MLS Next as a pro only league. This is simply not the case college is always a fallback and college coaches love players with pro level development.
