The Battle of Hormuz
Kharg Island is 500 miles northwest of Hormuz. Sending the Marines in to take Kharg guarantees the Strait of Hormuz will be mined and closed to all shipping for likely years. If Iran can't export its oil, no one can.
To take Kharg, the Marines will have to fly in by helicopter from Kuwait. And Kharg is within easy drone and artillery range from the Iranian mainland. It's going to be a high casualty battle.

Let's see: US and Israeli warplanes range freely over Iran, having hit thousands of targets, and are hitting more every day. The Iranian leadership has been taken out. Its new leader cannot or will not show his face. Its air defenses have been ineffective, destroyed or both. Its navy is largely gone. So It has now effectively blocked ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway vital to its own economy. US media would have you believe Iran has turned the tide in the war because blocking the strait never occurred to US war planners. You can choose to believe this. I don't.
So I guess that part of the plan involved Trump begging for help on social media two weeks in. Brit Hume, you're all over it.
"The Countries of the World that receive Oil through the Hormuz Strait must take care of that passage, and we will help — A LOT!" Trump wrote in a social media post. "The U.S. will also coordinate with those Countries so that everything goes quickly, smoothly, and well."
May be he is thinking passage through the strait is like the MAGA boat parade!

Meanwhile, the best response the Iranian propaganda repeaters can come up with is a conspiracy theory about Bibi and unfounded accusations that the Israeli government is somehow censoring their population and Tel Aviv has actually been leveled by a bunch of drones.
It's likely Khamenei is severly injured. The attack killed his father, his mother, his wife, his son, and his infant niece. It'd be unusual if he emerged unscathed. But his election as Supreme Leader is symbolic. It was a way for Iran's surviving leadership to express defiance against the US and Israel. And it allowed the IRGC to consolidate power while the US and Israel hunted for an imaginary leader who is incapacitated somewhere. The Iranian regime that exists today is far more hardline and militant than the regime that existed a month ago.
In retrospect, the US should have allowed the former 86 year old Supreme Leader to die a natural death. He likely would have been replaced by a much more moderate and reformist figure eager to get sanctions lifted in the wake of domestic uprisings. But here we are.
