I didn't see any scenarios where shifting the 140 students to other elementary schools is being considered - we weren't able to determine why only our school was in consideration. There were also scenarios for Lorton Station ES kids to shift from Hayfield to South County.”

I’m sure this goes back to the “where is Hagel Circle ending up” debate. I don’t know why they’d shift LSES kids to South County - LSES is a pretty large school and wouldn’t necessarily suffer like a smaller elementary if it were to become a split feeder, but maybe this is just to add more students to SCMS/HS if Hagel Circle ends up at LSES and Hayfield.

The original scenarios created by the SB and BRAC before Thru’s scenarios did have Hagel Cir. At Lorton Station and Hayfield - it was only when Thru got involved that they tried to shift them to Gunston and keep them at South County. There was speculation here that the influential Mason Neck group would get involved to ensure no more students were added to Gunston and that may have been what happened.

Who cares what my position is? It’s not my school either way. I’m in the pyramid but not directly affected. FWIW I think they should end up at Lorton Station, the county should make some road improvements to connect the rear of Hagel farthest from Rt. 1 directly to Lorton Rd. (Which would make for a very quick bus ride or even a walk), and that the Saratoga LSES AAP students should attend Springfield Estates AAP like the rest of their pyramid. But we all know FCPS would never make such a bold move. They love the convoluted status quo.

Hagel Circle to Lorton Station makes the most sense, but there are a few other easy changes that the board can make to reduce capacity at Hayfield to eliminate the potential split feeder and reduce capacity at Lorton Station.

1.) Neighborhoods located at the corner of Gunston and Route 1 currently zoned for Hayfield - zone to South County. The South County busses that go out on Mason Neck drive through this intersection. This will also help make Gunston a more even split feeder. Due to the geographic area that Gunston encompasses, it's impossible to not have as a split feeder.

2.) Cancel the proposed move of Inlet Cove to Island Creek from Gunston - this puts Gunston's population back up at 83% where it is currently, pre the proposed thru maps.

3.) It was previously posted that Lorton Station is an AAP center, which it became after it shoved Hagel Circle out to Halley 10-15 years ago. AAP enrollment at Lorton Station shows that it's mostly utilized by students from Saratoga Elementary, who use Lorton Station and then Lake Braddock as a way to escape Saratoga/Lewis. Send the Saratoga kids to an AAP center in the Lewis pyramid or have them attend Level IV. It's confusing as to why the Hayfield/SoCo AAP center is being utilized mostly by a Lewis pyramid elementary school.

Hagel Circle kids get to attend school in their neighborhood and everyone is happy.

South County is located in Lorton, yet Lorton Station students are sent to a school in Alexandria which is much further. Many Lorton Station students are unable to participate in after school activities because of the distance, especially during peak driving hours.

Do you even know the number of students from Saratoga that go to school at Lorton Station Elementary? Your solution to the problem may not be appropriate.

Lorton Station 83%. capacity 888 enrollment 736. 152 open.

I guess FCPS did not refine or re-allocate or subdivide what is in an SPA as part of this "not" comprehensive review. It didn't even make new ones in Tysons areas with dramatic new construction. The original scenarios created by the SB and BRAC before Thru’s scenarios did have Hagel Cir. At Lorton Station and Hayfield - it was only when Thru got involved that they tried to shift them to Gunston and keep them at South County. There was speculation here that the influential Mason Neck group would get involved to ensure no more students were added to Gunston and that may have been what happened.

Who cares what my position is? It’s not my school either way. I’m in the pyramid but not directly affected. FWIW I think they should end up at Lorton Station, the county should make some road improvements to connect the rear of Hagel farthest from Rt. 1 directly to Lorton Rd. (Which would make for a very quick bus ride or even a walk), and that the Saratoga LSES AAP students should attend Springfield Estates AAP like the rest of their pyramid. But we all know FCPS would never make such a bold move. They love the convoluted status quo.

Second, you cannot make that path! It is private property! Have you even been there… obviously not because there is a fence put up by Hagel Circle and the private community(HOA property) to separate the two communities for various reasons. That is not county property!!!

Keep in mind, the consultants have much more info with the students, trends, capacity, which is why they had them at Gunston.

I think when this is over, they will be part of Gunston elementary.
