They had several days to plan for this — can’t she just send an assistant to buy a nice black dress size 2? Or order 3 online and pay for expedited delivery and then try them all on at home. I have to assume she bought this dress specifically for this memorial and it’s such an odd choice. It’s also really odd that JD does not have a black suit considering the funerals are a major part of the VP job. A navy suit is fine for your coworkers spouse died. But for a situation like this and where you are representing the United States, black suit and a somber tie of some sort (or maybe the tie could be in the school color or something like that as a show of support—I think dark green here.) These two are just so surprisingly tacky.
Here are some pictures of the Bidens and the Obamas attending various memorial services. Joe and Barack are wearing navy suits in ALL of them.

Who is advising these two on etiquette and protocol?
A navy blue suit is perfectly appropriate to wear to this occasion, and her dress is hardly "stripper"-like. Are you 80?
No, it's not, but you knew that.
Oh, sweetie.

People say that it's okay, bc funerals are not exactly something you plan for. Sometimes you find out you have a funeral in a couple of days and there's no time to get a black suit. In that case, blue is fine.
This is not that case. He is the sitting VP of the United States. And independently wealthy. I am almost certain he has a black or charcoal suit in his closet.

I believe there are people who would advise them but they probably feel they are too good for it. They seem like people who think they are above advice on protocol.

I'm guessing that as is the case with this administration, the people in those positions don't have much experience and aren't doing the job well OR the staff is ignoring their advise because they don't care.
"(They) really don't care, do you?"

Not to mention THIS is the day she chose to wear Melania-style stripper shoes.
