Because it is the issue. I know that Republicans like to play it down as if it’s about recreational sex, but it’s literally about liberty and citizenship. If the state specifically blocks a woman from her own bodily autonomy, she is not a full citizen. The state is compelling the use of her body.

Absolutely.

It’s 2024. Why TF are Republicans blatantly trying to subjugate women?

I'm pro-abortion rights by the way but this case sounds more like medical malpractice. Why would the doctors delay a D&C if the fetus was already dead and only some tissue remained especially when the mother was clearly septic. It is not illegal under GA law.

It is, actually illegal under Georgia law. Welcome to the world of death and destruction the forced birthers - you, probably, despite your “I’m pro-abortion rights” given that you cite two right wingers - wanted.

“But because D&Cs can be used to perform abortions, physicians operating can be slow to provide them even for miscarriages and other emergency situations. […] Not until 2 p.m. the day after Thruman entered the hospital was she brought for surgery. She died in the operating room.” https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2024/09/a-georgia-woman-has-died-after-an-abortion-ban-delayed-lifesaving-care/

The woman was so sick that not only was she soaking through a pad every hour, she was also vomiting blood. I sure hope you don’t think you have a gotcha there with your “she already had a prescription abortion!” Sometimes that doesn’t work and a D&C is the next step. But here it was a next step that doctors are not allowed by controlling misogynists to offer until a woman is sufficiently close to death. She was too close to death and she was pushed over by forced birthers who hate women and don’t care what happens to women; it’s all a just punishment in forced birthers’ eyes if one dirty slut is forced to keep a pregnancy as punishment, right?

Actually I am pro-abortion rights you idiot despite your hysterical post and accusing me of being a forced birther. I'm in the medical field which is why I searched more about the case because it didn't make sense and the tweet popped up. I was questioning why the D&C was delayed when the patient was clearly septic. At our hospital it is considered an emergency which is why they would call a Code Sepsis because delaying treatment can result in death, loss of limbs etc.

This case also demonstrates the potential dangers of the abortion pill itself which is often prescribed without any advice direct from a physician regarding the potential risks to the woman including sepsis and hemorrhage. I worry women may delay seeking medical treatment if something goes wrong. Sadly women have died after an abortion. In 2020 for example six women died from complications due to legal induced abortion.

I agree that government needs to stay out of women's bodies. Women have the right to make educated decisions, weigh options and have access to the best and safest care possible when it comes to their health. Is my stance clear enough for you or do you have any more hysterical comments for me?

Citing right wing nobodies from social media makes one look like they are pushing right wing propaganda. if you don’t want to be called a force birther then don’t cite rw propaganda.

Maybe don't resort to accusing people of things they aren't and actually listen to what they are saying. I'm so tired of some of you people. The problem with today is there is so much propaganda and misinformation I have to read from many different sources to figure out what the actual truth is.

If you’re turning to right wing sources, that’s literally consuming misinformation; you won’t get any truth from that. The reality of the forced birther agenda is that there is no way to make reality look pretty. The reality is that doctors are effectively prevented from doing just about any abortion no matter what it is, because according to the way the forced birthers wrote the laws, the embryo/fetus has more rights than the woman or girl carrying it. Ectopic, molar, missed miscarriage actually causing sepsis, lithopedion, severe placenta percreta previability, the pregnancy resulting from a child’s rape - none of it matters. Women have to go elsewhere or try to edge close enough to death to qualify.

And let’s talk about what getting close to death means. I’m not a doctor. I don’t work in the medical field. But damage to one’s heart, kidneys, liver, brain, mobility, it’s all on the table depending on how a patient is affected. And there is absolutely no reason for any of it, just a bunch of hateful people who like to torture women and who have spent decades gaming our system to make it happen.

I think a lot of women have internalized misogyny to such an extent that they kind of accept that women have a tough row to hoe, so this is just more of Eve’s curse. Imagine it if Christian Scientists and Jehovah’s Witnesses had spent decades gaming the system and we had now arrived at a place where all medical care was essentially abolished. Imagine if you were just told to ignore the tumor you could palpate: pray over it. Imagine if you needed a transfusion after an accident: pray over it. That would be called insane and barbaric. But that’s where women in forced birth states are.

Lady I don't need to only consume left wing media as if it is the actual truth on any matter. Give me a break. They are filled with as much propaganda as right wing sources. Intelligent people actually look at matters more critically and consume various sources of information. And by the way I work in the obstetrical field unlike you which is why I was seeking additional details about her case.

DP. Standard of care should have been an immediate D&C, yes. There's a paragraph in the ProPublica article detailing how the language in the GA law may be vague here, though, as the patient's condition was not due to a naturally occurring miscarriage:

"It prohibits doctors from using any instrument “with the purpose of terminating a pregnancy.” While removing fetal tissue is not terminating a pregnancy, medically speaking, the law only specifies it’s not considered an abortion to remove “a dead unborn child” that resulted from a “spontaneous abortion” defined as “naturally occurring” from a miscarriage or a stillbirth.""

So, it is possible the doctors would feel they were at risk, due to the fact that the retained products of conception were a result of a medical abortion, and not a naturally occurring miscarriage.

Either way, clearly this woman died due to lack of appropriate medical care, and now a young child is motherless.

We’ve all said the GOP wants the 1850, but with cell phones. They do.
