That will be their 3rd ID session this spring (other two were already held), so probably yes.

If you are interested just email Tom and come to a practice.

It looks like George Hales has taken the reins. Everything important us being done by him, so I'd say email George. that's ghales@washspirit.com.

Wow.

Wow is right. Not the right answer for long-term success at WSVA.

Why? George is an excellent coach.

What makes him an excellent coach? Serious question.

Same question here. The lack of improvement from year to year for the U17s? The -63 goal differential in 19 games? The style of play shown here? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmN8rgWl8-Y

Excellent in what way?

You can't look at scoreboards to see the improvement because the VA side has been plagued by large rosters and play ups. Spirit VA took on players they shouldn't have and played up players the shouldn't have. That impacts the entire squad for multiple age groups.

Since you choose to pick on the U17s, they have an excellent 03 goal playing on the 19s, a first class 02 centerback again up on the 19s, and a midfielder and a forward. All of these players could have been difference makers of the 17s.

The 17s have also constantly had players thrust on them that shouldn't be there, on the field and in goal.

All of the teams have had this problem. Tighten the rosters, move players to their correct age group, and see the difference. Some people think if your kid isn't playing up, they aren't good, which is ridiculous. Great players play at age all the time.

Lol. Agreed. However, enjoy your playups this weekend.

Lol! Every team, every weekend.

I'm told next year will be different. I believe Spirit has such potential and some truly talented players in all age groups, so I hope it will be. If not, Spirit VA will probably collapse, if the DA doesn't kick it out.

It wont change enough to change the trajectory.
It will not collapse because the money supports a domestic league with NT players.

It's Super y with a DA patch.

We are hearing rumors of DA cutting teams with poor records. Not sure if they mean for 2019-20 or beyond.

Of course they will. Eventually. The boys' side did it and the ECNL does it. The girl's DA has to do it to maintain some sort of standard.

The new owner is ultimately the decision maker, and he has told staff to cut back rosters.

You really have no idea what you are talking about.

SuperY is a recreational type program. Not very structured and no standards.

The DA program is very structured, well scheduled, and much more serious. Players are much better on average as well. Saying things like this just makes you look silly.

Playups often come back to age and get surpassed. It's not what its cracked up to be.

More often than most people realize.

Don't the Spirit 17s have even more players up with the 19s lately? And also some injuries? Are the people playing up there because the younger rosters are bloated or because the 17s roster is lean and there are two games this weekend in warmer weather than we've had lately? Have you considered that not all play ups actually want to play up -- sometimes it's a sucky gig. You often play way less than you would at age, and may or may not be involved in much of the play on the field when you are on it because the players don't know you well. Not making excuses, but the tone of this thread is always that coaches are yielding to parents demanding their kid play up. That certainly is the case some of the time, but not always.

I agree with some of what you said. Some players don't want to play up but are forced to. With our massive 04 roster, players play up because it's a way to give time to more players. We had the same crap last year. We have too many, so if the 17s have even one opening, we stuff a player in there to give more playing time all around. It's a sucky gig and that is never how playing up should be allocated.

And others are from parental demand. They want their kids rostered on the older team, these kids see a ton of time, and performance doesn't seem to factor in.
