I remember reading the post a while back that showed Blair's SAT average was 50 points higher for the largest common cohort to it and any W in order to isolate for demographic differences and gauge the school's actual value. Some people argued but the magnet responsible which was ridiculous because it's a small program in a large school that's also mostly Asian. These silly posts that are based on outdated notions from 30 years ago are mostly laughable.
I believe these were the SAT scores for the largest cohort common to each of these high-schools

You're right. If all kids were exactly the same this would be a great way to rank schools, but they aren't.

This is just an average which doesn't tell how what opportunities exist for kids.

Some schools have more ESOL and FARMS students that doesn't make them better or worse for the kids that need those services. All schools also have many AP offerings and many bright students too. The quality of a school has more to do with meeting the needs of its students. These types of statistics are mostly self-congratulatory posts and kind of miss the whole point.

Gosh. The schools with affluent kids also have larger percentages who go to college? Stop the presses!!

Some of us were zoned for Blair and chose a school that "fell off the rankings" instead. Speaking of, Einstein also seems to be missing. Others of us appear to have chosen a school that would give them a two-hour commute to downtown DC.

Interesting. I’m not sure this is a valid ranking system. For example, WJ has the autism program and LFI that likely have an effect on percent of students meeting university entrance requirements.

These bulk averages aren't really useful in terms of evaluating a school. The question is how well
would the same student do at each of these schools? Simply stating a bunch of statistics for a school with low farms isn't especially helpful nor does it shed light... Maybe it helps sell real estate to people who aren't capable of looking beneath the surface. Most of these statistics seem to be a statement about a lock of diversity and poverty. Multiples have same advanced courses and a high performing cohort. This leads me to believe that anyone can do well and any of them.

Yes I think it's great to do an apples to apples comparison in order to isolate for demographic differences which are great proxy for affluencea nd see how schools really stock up. Personally I wasn't surprised to see Blair at the top of the list.

Based on the comments above, I did a second pass using actual data. I didn't look at race or FARMS - I looked at results. The results surprised me. Both Northwood and Kennedy dropped off the list. A surprise to me was that, yes, Northwest and Damascus were both excellent schools that I didn't give enough credit to, but could also drop a Tier due to elevated suspension rates. Magruder, Blair and Rockville probably should drop off of the Tier IV into the Tier V due to their high suspension / dropout rates (which artificially skew their academic results higher). I just don't know what to replace them with? Didn't analyze all High Schools so there could be a few sleepers out there.

The Tier cutoffs were based solely on the school's ability to prep their student body for college.
