I’m a right-leaning Trump-hostile independent. Beshear is on my “do not vote for” list because of COVID. Based on past experience, I assume someone will chime in to the effect of “lol screw you maga!” But (1) I’m not MAGA and (2) if you’re hoping to win elections, you should try to win votes like mine!

OMFG. Get over the COVID crap already. The world isn't about you and extends past your own GD nose.

PP has a point. Neither major party can win by playing just to their own base. They need independents and must pick off a few from the other team. Pandering solely to your own team sont work.

Presidents as unpopular as Trump and Biden swing the swing voters to the other side by default. This works to the Dem's favor in 2028 as the swing voters will be taking their frustration with Trump out on the GOP nominee just as we saw in 2024 with swing voters against Biden and in 2020 with swing voters voting against Trump. A consistent job approval rating in the 40% range means you've lost the necessary swing vote portion of the electorate.

If a normal and at least average by past standards Dem nominee surfaces in 2028, they'll win with 350 to 400 electoral votes and 55% of the popular vote. Dems would still be favored with another Biden level nominee but the margin of victory will be similar to the 2020 and 2024 results.

COVID is your issue? In 2026?!

The way a governor handled COVID is definitely pertinent even years later. I don’t blame PP for ruling him out because of his policies during COVID.

COVID really exposed some people's mental issues. They are broken now.

I’ve heard some interviews with him and he sounds like an earnest guy. But do we have to cater to Christians? Remember separation of church and state?

Christians are a big voting block, peeling off a few from R can swing an election.

Christians vote for who their church tells them to vote and it sure isn’t a dem. Nice thought though.

Hi. Lifelong Dem. Practicing Catholic.

You need to cut out this rhetoric. Far right conservatives don't own Jesus. They don't even know who he is.

We will not win again with ignorant s**t like this being spewed constantly. It's just a far left version of right wing stupidity. Knock it off already.

Agree. Catholics include left and right. You can’t pigeon-hole them. They aren’t like the Evangelicals in voting profile at all.

Neither are Evangelicals. I think you mean White Evangelicals. Black Evangelicans vote overwhelmingly Democrat.

If you seriously think Trump and Biden are worse than:

Franklin Pierce (Profoundly bad at his job)
Zachary Taylor (placeholder POTUS)
Nixon (Watergate)
James Buchanan (let the civil war happen, Dred Scott)
Andrew Johnson (stifled Reconstruction)
WHH (Died in 30 days)

You clearly did not pay attention in history class and should be quiet. Biden will be judged on par with Carter, if I had to guess. Trump will likely go down as the worst modern day POTUS we've had.

DP. I would think Warren Harding would be on this list as well. Trump is basically like Harding 2.0. And how does dying in office make you a bad president?

Biden accomplished very little and let the war in Gaza get out of control.

Biden was the most consequential Democrat we've had in office since LBJ when it comes to domestic policy. He was more Progressive than Obama. You people are nuts.

Agree to some extent but when your final year in office is defined by an unprecedented re-election campaign collapse that gives our worst POTUS ever an easy path to a second term, your presidency becomes a failure.

By this argument Obama should also be on the list, because despite high popularity he failed to support his former SoS sufficiently to get her elected over the person who basically campaigned on overturning his legacy.

You don't have to like Biden's policies, but he was not a failure in getting many of them implemented. And a lot of people liked the policies and the objective results while they were still in place (e.g. reduction in childhood poverty).

I agree with this. I have been deeply disappointed in Obama's lack of electoral support for his party.

Rahm Emanuel. I’m an independent who would strongly consider voting for him.

Warnock and Kelly don’t pass the hot test, but beshear is ok looking he might have a chance. Gavin Newsome passes the hot test and has the best chance of winning.

?????

The relatively Good looking candidates are more likely to win. Lots of research this topic and the more attractive political candidates have better odds. Warnock and Kelly are less attractive than Vance. Gavin Newsome is more handsome so his odds of winning are better.

Ossoff it is then!!

+1 sneaking in my prediction here that he wins his senate race decisively - like 4-5 points - and then throws his hat in the ring.

The problem is that there are lots of single issue voters like you. You’re all about COVID policy. Someone else is all about immigration. Someone else is up in arms about trans rights. Maybe we should just poll test every single issue and create an AI candidate that optimizes among all possible positions. Or… don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

That’s fine. You can do what you want. I’m just explaining why you lose voters like me. You might be okay with that, but the traditional strategy in an election is to try to win lots and lots of votes in hopes of eking out a winning number of them!

You’re absolutely right. I’m willing to sacrifice the 1-2% of voters that like you will vote based on an epidemic eight years earlier, and instead cater to the 70% of voters who vote based on jobs and economics.

Exactly. Bye crybaby!
