“Part of why I started drinking was because I was trapped,” the actor told Stern. “I was like, ‘I can’t leave because of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ And what I did was [I] drank a bottle of scotch and fell asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”

Affleck later set the record straight and continued to praise his ex. “I had gone on and said how much we respect each other and cared about each other, and cared about our kids and put them first and went through our stuff,” he clarified to Jimmy Kimmel, adding that the following stories made him out to be “the exact opposite of who I am.”

“I would never want my kids to think I would ever say a bad word about their mom,” Affleck continued. “Because I never had, I never would.”

Never a bad word? He said he felt trapped in the marriage because he had kids.

That wasn’t anything bad about Jen. That was his feelings about his own position of being in the marriage. Wanting out of a marriage because it isn’t working and feeling conflicted about that doesn’t mean the same as talking badly about someone. He is allowed to have feelings about his own life.

Of course. And you share those feelings in therapy, and with your closest friends. It is incredibly disrespectful to the mother of your children to share that with Howard Stern.

Agree. It’s the way he put things and the word trapped… It makes it seem like it’s beyond his control. What did he do to contribute to being in a marriage that was bad and needed to end? What did he do to rectify the situation and see if they could save the marriage?

He wasn’t willing to get help. His solution to feeling trapped was having an exit affair with the nanny and humiliating the mother of his children. Then running around with a 22 year-old rando who happily let him drink.

The whole thing was just very passive. He’s allowed to have feelings about it, but the way he phrased it and of course his actions in the years that followed - he absolutely was not taking responsibility.

Right, it's all in the framing. A person who was taking responsibility for his own actions might have said, "We were having difficulties in our marriage and instead of dealing with the problem and facing difficult feelings, I chose to avoid the problem by drinking. Obviously this made the situation worse." Instead he framed it by pointing the blame for his drinking on his family for keeping him "trapped" in a failing marriage.

I hate when men say they are “trapped”.

Garner said he wanted a boy so it seems to me he trapped her.

I hate to say it but I think he only had kids and married Garner to elevate his Hwood career after Gigli as a “family man”. If he had his way, he would want to be a lifelong bachelor like Leonardo DiCaprio

as an aside: JGs career in commercials is enviable. Seems like an ideal revenue stream. The only person in more commercials is pron Mahomes, and maybe peyton manning

Split the house and joint earnings 50/50 and leave. They will both have lawyers doing most of the heavy lifting. Given they are both multi millionaires, it can’t be that hard.

They didn’t sign a prenup and they bought a 68 million dollar home all in cash. No mortgage. California is a community property state which means any income earned during the marriage is considered to be a part of a couple’s shared assets.

Ben started a production company Artists Equity with Matt Damon four months after marrying Jennifer and Jennifer is one of the key investors as well. During the time of their marriage, Artists Equity produced Ben’s movies Air, Unstoppable, The Instigators, and The Accountant 2. Lopez could ask for her entitled share of profits from those films, just like Affleck could do the same for Atlas, This Is Me… Now, The Mother, Shotgun Wedding, and Marry Me.

this is it. and some of those affleck movies will be $$$

Did he just want the investment from her for his production company? I really wonder why he started the company four months after marrying. It’s strange timing

Anyone close to an addict is familiar with this pattern of behavior. No impulse control, irrational, all about the endorphins in the moment.

+ 1 million and that advice is for anyone who cares about his.her family

I think we've established his maturity level is pathetic.

+1 goes for anyone who blabs about his/her family on television, Instagram, etc. Immature and pathetic.

Agreed!

+1 Those who feel the need to share with the world are self-serving and have an incredible need for attention and validation.

+2 Anyone who shares negative info about their family/ex-relatives publicly has low self esteem and is desperate for attention and approval. It's such a needy, immature, vengeful, petty thing to do. This would have been better suited for a buddy talk with Matt Damon, not shared with the world via Howard Stern.

Did he jump right in or was he already there even during the marriage? It’s pathetic if he cheated during a short 2 year marriage, 3 year courtship that he initiated where he gave J Lo a promise ring that had “not going anywhere” engraved on it?

He moved out in April. What became so terrible about her that he can’t stand living in the same house anymore? The only thing I can think of is he cheated and she found out

I heard the interview live and he didn’t seem well during it. I can’t describe exactly but just didn’t seem with it really.
