Where was that posted?
I just checked their FB page and found this in the comments:
“I'll email to slides to the PTO email list (are you on it?) but the school board shared several scenarios where 140 new students will shift from Halley ES to Lorton Station ES, which would put us at 99% capacity. I didn't see any scenarios where shifting the 140 students to other elementary schools is being considered - we weren't able to determine why only our school was in consideration. There were also scenarios for Lorton Station ES kids to shift from Hayfield to South County.”
I’m sure this goes back to the “where is Hagel Circle ending up” debate. I don’t know why they’d shift LSES kids to South County - LSES is a pretty large school and wouldn’t necessarily suffer like a smaller elementary if it were to become a split feeder, but maybe this is just to add more students to SCMS/HS if Hagel Circle ends up at LSES and Hayfield.
The original scenarios created by the SB and BRAC before Thru’s scenarios did have Hagel Cir. At Lorton Station and Hayfield - it was only when Thru got involved that they tried to shift them to Gunston and keep them at South County. There was speculation here that the influential Mason Neck group would get involved to ensure no more students were added to Gunston and that may have been what happened.
99% capacity makes sense, especially if it brings a poor neighborhood with limited transportation options back to their closest neighborhood school.

Rooted in Oakton, a group trying to keep Crossfield ES at Oakton and not Western. They have a website and everything.
It's a small group of Crossfield AAP and sports moms who have a lot of time on their hands and have recruited their Oakton, Navy and Waples Mill friends to join a FB group and sign a petition to make it look like a huge portion of the Crossfield community supports staying at Oakton. Look in the FB group - I don't recognize 75% of the names.
Imagine these are SAHMs too who have nothing better to do.
Bingo! And run the PTO to boot.
You are welcome to volunteer and run the PTA.
I don't ever volunteer for PTA stuff, and rarely volunteer for other stuff beyond the really easy things like collecting tickets at events.
I will never, ever understand the vitriol from some people towards the moms who are willing and able to volunteer all those hours to run and organize things like team funraisers, school carnivals, book fairs, stocking the staff breakrooms, bringing in performers and authors for school assemblies, funding high school scholarships, etc etc.
Those moms put in a ton of volunteer hours, fill in gaps when needed, and often use their own money to do so, doing double or triple shifts when most parents (like me) can't or won't take the time to step up and do their part.
The only thing I think when I see posts like this slamming the moms who step up and volunteer, unlike moms like me, is that the post is dripping of jealously, guilt and resentment because those moms are able and willing to make the time to invest in their kids' school to the benefit of all kids including the kids of those of us like me, who can't or don't want to volunteer.
Slamming the PTA moms instead of just saying thank you or saying nothing if you can't get over your resentment, guilt or jealousy, just looks really small and petty.
If you don't like what the PTA moms do for the school, just quietly opt your kid out of every event, presentation, book fair or assembly run and funded by these hard working moms, or step up and volunteer yourself.
Me? I never wanted to volunteer, so I would just send a thank you and a check.

Nope.
As I said, I never volunteer for anything at the school, other than taking tickets once or twice a year.
With nearly 20 years of contiuously having kids enrolled in FCPS, I have never once joined the PTA, not attended a single PTA meeting, and have only attended the club and sports booster meetings that are the mandatory ones at the start of the season.
I appreciate the PTA moms and what they do for the schools and students, but have no desire to invest the time that they invest.
My kids don’t go to Crossfield but I have heard some people complain that the after school activities and some other PTO sponsored things are pretty lacking compared to some other schools. I’ve also heard the Crossfield principal is the type who is particularly influenced by PTO parents and what they want. We all know some people volunteer for the good of their community, while others do it so they can make sure everything is set up to benefit their own children.
No dog in the western fight, but just here to say you are the worse type of person. The one who will complain about somebody volunteering their time to help your kid and others while you sit idly by being lazy. Gotta be tough to have so much cognitive dissonance.
Who the hell are you to say I don’t volunteer for things? I work full time and would probably drop too may balls if I were on the PTO, but I volunteer for events at school and I am in thankless volunteer roles jobs for three of my kids’ extracurricular activities. Sorry you don’t like that some of us see through your selfish motives for taking on certain roles.
This is a rezoning thread, not a bash PTA moms thread.
The suggestion was that some bossy PTO moms expect others to fall in line with their views about boundary proposals.
Exactly. Certain PTO moms with strong views on boundaries tend to be the ones who aren’t very nice to parents outside their clique and are hostile to those who don’t support their movement.
The PTO president at our school happens to be a lovely person and has not been getting involved in boundary review issues. Probably because she rightly sees it as a potential abuse of one’s position.
She must not be from Crossfield.

They're exploring options for Hagel Circle.
It’s extra hilarious that they didn’t even hold this meeting at Halley, where Hagel Circle attends now. Do those families even have any idea that they’re slated to move?
Come on.
You jnow those poor Hagel Circle kids should never have been bussed 4 elementary schools away, crossing I95, all the way to Halley.
Are you aware that they are passed pass the same I95 crossing to get to south county middle and high school… why is this not an issue?
If you can't see or understand the different needs, abilities and stamina between a 6 year old and a teenager, I don't know if anyone can answer your question.
What an ignorant response… obviously you have no answer
You’re probably one of those Gunston parents that despise Hagel Circle and whined about having them there. What a shame. You can have that school. Sucks anyways
I’m a different type of Gunston parent willing to accept them.
I live in the hayfield part of Gunston and want to move to SoCo.
Know Lorton station parents who want that move too.
Indeed I am, and I’m in RIO too.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Chantilly is just as good as Oakton. It can be a PTA or it can be some other school activity where there are a lot of parents involved, and it can also change over time depending on the personalities involved, but it’s not fun when you summon up your energy to volunteer only to encounter a group of parents who do their utmost to freeze you out.
Oh yeah that’s the other fun thing about certain PTO moms… they either ignore or are totally nasty to other parents doing one time volunteer jobs. I remember one of them straight up yelling at parents who had volunteered at the end of year party, as if those parents were their employees. Like who cares if the stupid beach ball game doesn’t go perfectly Karen, the kids are having fun.

PTA officials put in a lot of work and effort and time.
They don't always welcome all parents to help and can appear cliquey.

True. But, others do. Just look at RIO. They are almost at Langley level in their elitism.
What's Rio?
