The crack pipes story is a perfect example of how false stories are disseminated with lightning speed --and are parroted without any fact-checking by politicians to suit their agenda. Before anyone comes at me with whataboutism, both sides do this, but it's particularly wrong when our elected officials do it. We should demand that they do better.
Here's what happened:
1. Washington Free Beacon publishes article on Feb. 7 citing an anonymous DHHS spokesman that a program backed by the Biden administration "will provide pipes for users to smoke crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, and 'any illicit substance.'"
2. Senator Marco Rubio writes a tweet on Feb. 8 that President Joe Biden "is sending free meth & crack pipes to minority communities in the name of ‘racial equity.'"
3. In a tweet sharing the Free Beacon article, Sen. Ted Cruz wrote that Biden's crime policy is "crack pipes for all."
